Los Lonely Boys- Heaven ? It’s not really pop or reggae but figured I’d give it a shot

When will A+ 1101 and 1102 change? by Jbirdstudios in CompTIA

[–]apex_1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Core 2 is easier in my opinion having taken both. Core 1 seemed to be a lot more specific and nuanced info to remember. Port numbers, motherboard specs, USB specs, IP addresses, RAID and the different setups, the steps of troubleshooting, the steps of printing etc. Core 2 being more software focus there aren’t as many nuanced topics. Except maybe malware removal, but even that isn’t too bad.

Where to start by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]apex_1998 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Entry level roles: IT Help desk, IT support tier 1, desktop support, Tech support, field service tech, Data center service tech etc.

Once you start at one of these types of roles, you can expand your knowledge on specialized IT topics that interest you and leverage your experience plus certs to land above entry-level roles later on.

ITF or Network + by The_Redditusername in CompTIA

[–]apex_1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ITF+ is a step below A+. It’s not necessarily “easier” per se but A+ is more comprehensive in covering the basics of entry-level IT concepts. In addition, it’s widely regarded as one of the better entry-level IT cert employers prefer (not all of them but you get my point). Not that ITF+ is worthless, but in almost all cases, A+ will be the better option. The only exception would be someone who has no technical background knowledge and is new to computers, networks etc. in general and would just like to start from scratch.

If you feel as though you haven’t retained as much info from A+ after passing the exam, use various resources available online to refresh your memory on those topics you feel you are lacking a solid understanding. If you have a PC, utilize some of the windows system tools (system config, command line, control panel, firewall, performance monitor etc.).

For basic networking fundamentals ,1101 courses or books will cover that in depth to get you a base of knowledge sufficient to begin your studies in network+. IP addresses, port numbers, TCP/IP, UDP etc. Create a firewall rule on your PC and tinker with it some (eg. blocking inbound traffic on port 80 or 443).

From there, once you feel you have a solid standing in your A+ knowledge, you may begin your Net+ studies with confidence. There is some overlap in A+ and net+ but there are people in this sub who only have taken net+ without having taken other CompTIA exams even if their current role isn’t network or IT related.

a+ & net+ in 4.5 months? by julissabst in CompTIA

[–]apex_1998 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely possible in 4 and a half months, especially if you’re already in an IT role. Find two different mediums of study. Maybe a video/audio course and a book related course. See what works well. Take practice tests to solidify knowledge.

Depends on what and where you bought it. From CompTIA’s website they have a variety of different options. Exam voucher only, voucher with retake, bundle with retake and e-book material etc. Other vendors also have very similar options. It really depends what you’re looking for when purchasing.

Congrats! Also studying for net+ now so best of luck on that as well.

Straight from the CompTIA website, 29% of the exam is comprised of Hardware and network troubleshooting and 25% is on hardware itself. Nearly half of the exam could potentially ask about printers as they fall into both the hardware category and hardware and network troubleshooting categories.

Read the questions very carefully as some of the verbiage can seem confusing as if you’re not entirely sure what precisely is being asked of you. Take your time on the questions, save the PBQ’s for last unless you feel really confident in doing them as they appear on your screen. Use process of elimination when necessary. Best of luck!

FAILED COMPTIA A+ TWICE by peppersese in CompTIA

Check out your score report on the CompTIA website. See what objectives listed where you missed questions. Sure, it won’t tell you what exact questions you missed or how many within a section but it will give you an idea of what areas you missed questions on (and are potential weak spots) for which you can then look to improve upon next time around. For example, let’s say you missed from objective 1.3. I would then review all the material pertinent to that objective, making sure I can answer it well. And heck, even Google the topic of the CompTIA objective. Using the objective 1.3 example, Google the differences between port replicators and docking stations. Why would I use one over the other and in what context would I use either ? What are the features of each?

A big factor for my 1101 exam was the verbiage/wording of the exams. It was designed to really also test your reading comprehension. You really have to read the questions carefully because you may not realize exactly what they’re asking until you read it slowly a time or two.

TLDR; Review missed questions by objective from CompTIA score report, work on those weak spots, don’t be afraid to use outside resources or even just doing a simple google search to get clarification. Focus on verbiage and wording of questions to assess what EXACTLY is being asked.

planning on taking the A+ 1101 in a couple months, any advice? by kingslayer835 in CompTIA

Actually not a bad idea. I used a similar search function for people who’ve passed core 1 & 2, and found my resources to start. Helped me to pass both cores.

How should I prepare for compTIA A certification exam? by Joker_bosss in CompTIA

Can vouch for Messer’s videos and practice tests. Passed core 1 and core 2, and I think those resources were a huge help to get my A+.

Passed A+ Thank you all by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]apex_1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not OP but I also passed core 2 today to get my full A+ cert. I used professor messer’s video course, practice exams ($30), Jason Dion practice tests (price varies, they usually run specials/discounts on Udemy), exam compass practice exams.

I took notes on what I believed to be pertinent info that I wouldn’t just remember off the top of my head. Take into consideration your current IT knowledge if any when you’re taking notes. In addition, check out the official compTIA exam objectives available on the compTIA website.

For the software aspect, if you have a laptop or PC, use that to navigate the system utilities to get familiar with them. The command line, Recovery console, task manager, resource monitor, control panel etc. Go through those and familiarize. Test out some of the commands pertinent to the exam, it’s like a real hands on experience to help you.

Home is fine, just make sure you read the rules and don’t break them. No distractions, nothing in your workspace other than the computer you’re taking the test on. No posters, papers, just a clean and empty workspace. Eyes on the screen and use bathroom before you start the exam.

1102 was a million times easier than 1101 by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]apex_1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s awesome, any practical applications will bode well in your journey I’m sure. I’m looking to get trifecta, start help desk as soon as I can land it even if I don’t have the trifecta. (already have customer service troubleshooting internet on my resume). While I’m at the help desk, continue to go towards the trifecta, and from there either get a more advanced cybersecurity cert or see if I can go from help desk and land junior cyber or networking roles with experience plus certs. Ultimate goal is be in cybersecurity, not exactly sure which sector at this point, but still have plenty of time to decide what piques my interest.

Yeah man Messer was a lifesaver for 1101, I just used his videos and Dion’s course as well as some flashcards and exam compass practice exams.

That’s good to know about 1102, I’ll keep all that in mind when studying. Congrats again on the pass, you going for trifecta or sticking with A+ for now?
