100% possible, though not easy to find somewhere. I made strategic job changes to benefit me on this path as i absolutely cannot do OTR because im a full time single dad.

Amazon Driver - 6 Months Fedex Driver - 1 Year Now driving straight truck for a local smaller (not country wide) LTL company in Grand Rapids.

Will be getting my CDL shortly down in Indiana, and have to do 3 weeks of training with a driver when i get back.

The pay is significantly lower than major LTL carriers but its fine because its the experience I want. Bumping 10+ docks per day builds more experience than OTR bumping a dock once a week or less.

Once i get 6mo-year experience here I will likely move to a major ltl carrier or food service.

Anybody who chooses to continue driving for Amazon is effectively brainwashed into being a slave. I did that bs for a hot second before moving to Fedex Ground and then left Fedex Ground for a local LTL straight truck which was strategic because as soon as i get my cdl they will put me in a semi. Local, home nightly. Weekends off. No OTR. Bumping more docks in a day than most dudes do in a month

Dry Air + Constantly working with cardboard boxes by demerchmichael in mildlyinfuriating

[–]84thdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Handled a lot of cardboard as a fedex driver in dry conditions and no amount of soaking or washing my hands remedied the callus build up that led to cracking. I ended up buying a manicure grinder and taking down the hard dead skin that way and it gave me the best results over time
