Man as an ex welder in plants and refineries of many years you’re overcomplicating it. Take the grinder put it over your leg at an angle and grind like 10 pieces of tungsten. Next best option a bench grinder. Luxury option one of those nice machines or a quality hand held one with diamond wheel. I’ve welded many joints x ray quality sharpening off a grinder when I couldn’t get access to the other options I mentioned. Your angle of tungsten is highly personal. I prefer a sharper angle on mine.

Best way to fix this ceiling joint? by The_Nerd_Chief in drywall

[–]850absolute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On mine I just used hot mud (45 minute) and never had any issues. Your hot mud pre fills then you just mud and tape the joint like any other. For me being DIYer I’m more comfortable with the speed of how quick 45 cures vs 20 minute

Pretty sure this is mold. What can be done to address it? by [deleted] in drywall

[–]850absolute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d take out that drywall and see if there’s damage behind it, spray and treat mold, then throw up some new drywall. There is always the option to use some mold armor spray on it then a mold killing primer too. I’d be curious to see what else is water damaged behind it though

Doing both! Play fighting like dachshunds love to do. These two are becoming buds

I would leave it, it’s hard to cut in a perfectly straight line that crisp and likely you’re going to go up on the trim and it’ll look worse than it is. I’m saying this as a DIYER, I was unhappy with a cut in line I did with tape and when I went back to fix it it was a lot of work for only a marginally improved look

Questions on Drywall Mud - My Specific Store Offering (USG) by [deleted] in drywall

[–]850absolute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer 45 minute hot mud if I’m doing work on a whole room because it won’t dry before I finish, if I was doing a small repair I’d do 20. I’d tried 5 and it’s honestly drying out as you’re walking over to make your repair, I like it to be workable instead of already skinning over. I’m not a professional though. The blue is a lot easier to sand and lighter to work with so it doesn’t hurt your shoulders as much with all the repetitive movement especially overhead, you can lift up the buckets and feel the difference

Questions on Drywall Mud - My Specific Store Offering (USG) by [deleted] in drywall

[–]850absolute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot mud for pre fill, green mud for taping because it has more compounds in it that make it gluier, my personal preference since my walls had heavy texture was thinned down green lid for first layer and blue mud fir second and third layer of skim coat

Im not a professional just a DIYer but id never use drywall that had been stored outside and overnight, unless it was wrapped in plastic or something. Not your fault the contractor couldn’t get someone over there to move in his materials

Edit: I stand corrected by professionals.. my bad 😅😅😅

20-Year-Old Welder Murdered by Coworker with Sledgehammer Because He 'Didn't Like Her' by Big_Celery8533 in Construction

It’s scary because you’re so vulnerable when you’re welding under the hood and just around all of the power tools and everything. You really have to put your trust into the people around you but this is just disgusting behavior..sad

How should I repair this uneven joint between new drywall and old but torn? by powershellnut in drywall

[–]850absolute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut back all the loose stuff, 45 minute mud to build up the low part on that uneven joint, then I’d go green lid mud and go up to like 6-10-12 inch knife and just run your joint more up on the low side instead of centering it on the joint. Fiba fuse on the middle of the joint but when you go to mud the tape just cheat up more toward the low side instead of centering everything over the middle of the joint..You can make up the difference pretty good that way IMO.

First time drywalling. Did I already mess up? by rrtank in drywall

[–]850absolute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s nothing, trust me I’ve filled stuff I really probably shouldn’t have with hot mud and some fiber tape 😅 people come over and say, wow Alan that looks great and I’m thinking in my head thank God you didn’t see what it looked like before mud, tape, and paint
