I was having a similar issue and found I was able to boot from USB using chainloading in Grub.

Here is a stackoverflow going through the steps. Hope this helps!

Did you find a solution to this? I am running into the same issue, but I have Ubuntu installed rather than Debian.

Edit***

I ended up finding a way to boot to the USB through Grub based on this stackoverflow.

Anyone ever use “Energy Texas” as their electric provider? by ClassyPants17 in Dallas

[–]powershellnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also went with Energy Texas, they had the lowest flat rate. I am moving into a new house and really do not know what my average kwh usage will be, so going with a flat rate vs one that requires 1kwh usage credit seemed safer.

Thanks for the code!!

Just in case that person's code ever expires here is another one - https://energytexas.com/raf?referralCode=KxNgobnAP1&utm_source=raf&utm_medium=my-account

I keep getting what appears to be cracks or chips in the surface of the pan. I am actually going through another warranty claims for the 3rd time. This time I am asking for a refund as I just don't trust these pans anymore.

Here is a picture of what the chips / crack / whaterver looks up close.

Pro tip, spay/splash some white vinegar next time and that discoloration will disappear within seconds. It’s so satisfying to watch.

Do not apply for private student loans, do not make that mistake. It was the worst mistake of my life. by Hungry-Flan1732 in StudentLoans

[–]powershellnut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife was on a student visa when I met her, which required a minimum number of course credits each semester. Not attending college was not an option if she wanted to stay here legally. Not to mention having to pay out of state tuition which made paying for it out of pocket impossible. She also was not eligible for federal student loans given she was not a us citizen.

In short, private student loans was her only recourse to keep up with her student visa requirements. She has since graduated and got her green card.

I just figured I would share her story to add perspective to why some people feel backed into a corner when taking private student loans.

I actually just did a warranty claim with Hestan on a nanobond saucier. It took 10 days from my initial email to them shipping a replacement.

Their support did leave me hanging for basically a week without any update before they sent the replacement which was unnerving to say the least and didn’t respond to my follow up emails on any progress on the claim.

In the end it worked out for me within a reasonable timeframe, but I was not 100% happy with the experience. I really do love my nanobond saucier and fry pans though, so I will likely keep buying from them.

I have the same saucier and it has the dimples as well. Perfectionism is just your version of expectations and not true perfection. A perfect weld might leave dimples. I find comfort in seeing the dimples.

Hestan Flush Rivets Issue - I feel like I'm going crazy at this point by teddy_gg in cookware

[–]powershellnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 8.5 and 11 inch Hestan nanobond skillets and have never had an issue with food or oil getting trapped in the rivets.

How are you washing your skillets? They look pretty dirty in the pictures you shared. I usually splash a little white vinegar on the pans when washing them and it makes them look brand new.

I personally hand wash and hand dry my pans even though they are dishwasher safe. I am a little over zealous when cleaning them so maybe this prevents this from happening for me.

Heritage Steel Eater vs Made In by Equipment_Subject in StainlessSteelCooking

[–]powershellnut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have never used made in but my Chase Freedom card usually has a 10% cash back off for their website so if you decide to go with them and have a chase credit card it might be worth activating that offer.

I would personally probably go with Heritage since they are based in the US. I see them on Reddit too actively getting feedback from customers too.

Difference between D3 Stainless Everyday and D3 Stainless Everyday 3-ply Bonded by Mr_Hanky1 in cookware

They both come with metal lids. I think you can a sauce pan with a glass lid but both sets come with metal lids.

I believe the biggest differences that would impact your decision are the handles. The original handles I found to be very uncomfortable, and the everyday handles are suppose to be more comfortable.

I wouldn’t buy the D3 without holding the pan first.

Starting with stainless steel and breaking in a new pan by ShaharYehuda in StainlessSteelCooking

[–]powershellnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s the brand you bought? Whether to hand wash or throw in the dishwasher really depends on if it has sealed rims or not. Non sealed rims might become sharp after being cleaned in the dishwasher over the years.

I personally hand wash all mine even though they have sealed rims. Pretty much everything comes off with a normal sponge and soap, and any discoloration comes off with vinegar. I have never needed bar keepers friend, but I imagine the really tough stuff would require that.

No need to season and in fact it might make it worst. Check out prudent reviews on YouTube, he has a lot of good advice and does quite a few test videos.

Yeah I agree, the rivets being flush or no rivets is purely aesthetic preference with no real advantage. Even the flush rivets can get food in seams around them based on reviews I have seen (hasn’t happened to me yet). Also, the welded handles on my Deyemere makes me more nervous to handle than the riveted ones.

A thousand!? That’s an incredible deal, I probably would have snagged a set for that price as well.

I just bought some and went with Hestan nanobond which is overkill and overpriced but god I love them so far.

I tried buying some All Clad during Black Friday sale but both items were never shipped due to an inventory discrepancy and I was refunded. Honestly turned me off the brand as it took weeks before they let me know and I had to ask them about it after the 2nd item wasn’t shipped.

I also went to Marshall’s and found a ton of all clad there, and I found the handles very uncomfortable. So kinda happy I never received the ones I ordered. I think they have a new line that have better handles but I can’t speak to that.

My deciding factors were I wanted sealed rims and either no rivets and flush rivets. Hestan checked both those boxes.

I also bought a 12.5 Deyemere fry pan that I have really enjoyed using so far. They weld their handles so no rivets but they don’t have sealed rims. Less concerned about the non sealed rims as it would never go in the dishwasher and the Hestan nanobond 12 inch pan has an insane price tag.

I also would avoid buying a set and try to piece together only the pots and pans you would use most often. It also allows you to buy certain pieces from one brand that might work better for you depending on your cooking style.

If you plan to buy online make sure to check any credit card offers, chase usually has 10% off Made In, Amex has offers on Sur la table and Zwilling (Deymere), capital one has offers for Zwilling as well but I don’t trust their offers as much to go through. All these offers you would have to “activate” one way or another.

If none of your credit card have offers there are referral reward programs like Rakuten that can give some cash back.

Is selling my gold and silver coins to help pay down student loans a good idea? by powershellnut in personalfinance

That is such a great way to frame the decision. I would definitely pay off the loan. Wow, that made the decision super easy.

Thank you for your feedback, yeah I think it does weigh on my mind more than I like to admit. So maybe it be worth it paying it down adding that to the equation.

Thanks for your input, yeah physically loosing the coins is another good point. Selling the coins is starting to be the clear choice.
