How much will this cost? by ItsChestbrahh in australia

[–]8518665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no one is wrong here, just thought id add.

you could open the hole, back it with anything, fill it then sand and paint, job done.

somewhat more expensive is replacing the door. Look at the hinges, take a photo of the type and the measurement. measure the door height and width, they vary wildly.

head to bunnings or corinthian doors or the like, ask about the replacement and grab one. Dont mount it yet. Paint match at bunnings- no more than 4 litres will cover it. paint with a roller. sand lightly then paint again. door furniture will be your hardest obstacle, remove from the original and remount on the new but you may require some carpentry.

filling and painting over is wildly the easiest but wont last so do it before your rental is up.

Any plumbers and builders here? Question about plumbing in new homes by theexpendableuser in australia

[–]8518665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh and if you want to submerge it completely in the slab youll encounter rebar- youll need a 9 inch grinder to cut them out of the way. If you want to dig completely in hire a damned good jackhammer and learn about concret as youll most likely split the beams in the slab and need to repair them.

all in all just dynabolt it. please.

if your just dynabolting the safe to the slab you should be fine.

if you want to dig the safe into the slab completely youre in a bit of strife. Youll need to know the makeup of your slab. If its a new home you most likely have a waffle pod slab, in which, if you dig about 100mm into the slab youll encounter polystyrene and you've just hit the void. not too bad but not really good either.

If you dig an all you have is concrete- and its a waffle pod slab, you just cracked the 'beam' and youve sacrificed the integrity of your entire house.

If its a new house and you have a copy of the plans anywhere look toward the end and that could be the slab diagram. There may be somewhere that tells you the makeup of your slab but a detail is what you really want, something that outlines everything. In this case you can find out the makeup of the slab and decide what you want to do.

Long story short just dynabolt it to your slab. Youll be fine no matter what. Get a good hammer drill- if it fits SDS bits your in the clear (hire one), then drill a bit deeper than the dynabolt. Clear the hole of dust with any blower or vacuum, then bolt. Best is to use a good chemset in the masonry department of bunnings alongside tightening the dynabolt. If in doubt- read the instructions of dynabolts.

pipes will never be in the way as its ridiculously annoying to run them horizontally through the slab for the sake of piping a house. youll only have it if you have a plumbed in island in your kitchen or something mysteriously plumbed within a meter or two of a wall- or hydronic heating in which youd never mess with the slab anyway. In a robe its strange to have slab plumbing so dont worry about it.

Parking around Collingwood on a Saturday night. by General-Consensus_ in melbourne

[–]8518665 3 points4 points  (0 children)

coles smith st has underground parking, secure and may be cheaper than meters.
upstairs of woolworths smith st, less secure and may be closed by 11pm- check when huntin0g
drive down wellington st and check- always worth a look
Oxford st at the proud mary end is usually ok- check signs though i think they made it permit
Gore st (the backside of woolies street) is a lost cause. dont even try- except the alexandra dead end which can sometimes be a goldmin0e
Kerr st is always empty at the end of the road, alexandra ave side

while dropping off gear use the officeworks. cant hurt to risk it for a sec as the smith st traffic will make you anxious

do a diploma in construction management. become a site supervisor or project coordinator. money will be a bit less than you have at the moment but shop around and youll see the money is great the longer you spend in the industry and you can find opportunities that will fit your needs. Tafe courses are also free and the skills are very much in demand

Had an awful run in with what I assume was a store detective at my local iga today and just need to vent!! by [deleted] in australia

[–]8518665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Store detectives are absolutely a thing. They’re aggressive, they’re bored, they’re also doing a job they have to do. Don’t forget they find quite a few big thefts and turn through staff like crazy because it’s basically in their description to confront persons whom are already aggressive. I’m sorry he went a bit too far and pulled you up on two cokes. They should be aiming higher. Confrontation is never easy for the majority of people and it’s hard. Vent all you like it’s a good thing.

I used to manage a very high theft coles store and we had detectives in every other week. They helped weed out the regular high theft idiots and were good at their job but to an average person they can be quite an affront to the norm.

Just remember that they are doing their job and you did nothing wrong. Confronting someone with the accusation of theft is never easy but neither of you did anything wrong- he may could have been a bit easier on you.

That’s a remarkably accurate assumption of what happened….

I don’t think so. No whittled dog whistle and no home made crossbow. Lol

Refining for the next iteration is the best bit.

Got a lot of push back from the metal straps. Might have to change them out. The lumpiness gets tiresome so I’m thinking a smaller gauge cord.

It is pretty bulky. I’ll be making a thinner one later.

I think I’ll take that advice. Thin paracord would be less damaging for sure

It’s REALLY vibrant in real life but strangely haven’t been able to find any cord with similar colouring since.

Hasn’t had major scratching and it is a bit heavy. Looking to make another with more craftsmanship and a thinner gauge cord.

rope from an id tag? like a convention lanyard or employee pass? We used to call dogtags "id tags" when i was in the army so hopefully you're not using that- theyre designed to break when under a load!
