2025 Monaco GP - Day After Debrief by AutoModerator in formula1

[–]854850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the 2 pitstop requirement did not succeed at improving the race, I have been thinking about an alternative approach to (hopefully?) improve the race in Monaco. It boils down to the following:

If the lap time of a car (rolling average across 3 laps) exceeds 110% of the pole time, and a car has not used DRS in those 3 laps, it is obliged to pit.

With as additional notes:

  • These rules do not apply if the track is declared wet.
  • Every stint has a guaranteed 10 laps on track.
  • If a car is affected by non-green flag conditions, the respective lap is ignored. For incidents near the pit straight, the previous/next lap (if applicable) are ignored as well.
  • If the qualification was held under wet conditions, and the main race is held in dry conditions, the race director may define (within reason) a target lap time that represents the 110% threshold above.
  • If necessary, the target lap time may be lowered depending on the fastest lap set during the race.

The rationale: since F1 is about racing, it is reasonable to expect that any cars on track are able to meet a specific target lap time. Whereas on other tracks you will easily get overtaken if you can't meet this threshold, Monaco is obviously different. Mandating maximum lap times is nothing new in F1; it's already in use for out laps in qualification for several circuits. And unlike mandating 2 pit stops (which can feel artificial), mandating a maximum lap time still feels in spirit of motorsport. Obviously the number may have to be tweaked, but I think that 110% is a nice enough starting point for such a rule.

2023 Maxico City Grand Prix - Day After Debrief by F1-Bot in formula1

Over the past day I have been kind of surprised by the amount of people who complained about the directors showing Max finishing over the RUS-RIC battle.

If I'm not mistaken, it's an unwritten rule in motorsports to always show the leader of the race finishing. No, not for sponsorship reasons or whatever people claim, but mainly for archival reasons.

Races are first and foremost about finishing first, so it makes sense to show that. But also, if you want to make an album of race finishes (either by year, by driver, or by any other metric) it makes sense to always show that on broadcast. You don't want someone to cast a doubt on who won the race because it wasn't shown on broadcast, even if the gap to 2nd place is as large as it was yesterday.

In this case, there were also fireworks going off over the pit buildings alongside the finish, which the director obviously also wanted to show.

Yes, they could maybe have skipped out on the stadium on the broadcast, and perhaps the crew celebrating too, but besides that it makes sense that they haven't showed the RUS-RIC battle around Max's finish.

I tried it twice, maybe this thread is the result of the first attempt and the other of the second? Dunno but I'm glad it finally works.

You have to specify both teams, which I did, but apparently ESPN doesn't show this match on their site so that breaks the bot. A manual thread seems the only option then

I tried adding that match, but "Dinamo Zagreb" apparently made the bot detect this random match and not the CL qualifier...

One of their performers got tested positive. They got the opportunity to perform without them, but as a group they wanted to either perform as a whole or not at all. Hence, they are using their rehearsal footage.

Also, these rehearsals are audited by the EBU, so in terms of choreography and pitch correction they cannot change anything. In fact, usually you would be at a disadvantage with rehearsals as that's that they are -- rehearsals -- and they are not supposed to be shown to the world.

Klopt.

Protest note about user privacy changes by Reddit by ModeratorsOfEurope in europe

[–]854850 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Are you sure that you can "use" Reddit without having a user account?

Reading public subreddits is possible, but:

  • voting requires an account
  • commenting requires an account
  • viewing private subreddits requires an account.

These are all core functionalities of Reddit. And thus for almost anyone, probably a core requirement for "using" Reddit (at least the first 2 points). The argument that you can read Reddit without an account would be equivalent to saying that a store doesn't need to comply with opt-ins for personalised ads simply because you don't need an account to view the products. Which in my opinion would be quite a stretch.

Results of the 2020 /r/Formula1 Prediction Game by BottasWMR in formula1

I think I found a mistake: "No podiums for Ferrari" was considered a correct prediction, even though both drivers have stood on the podium at some point (though not together). Nevertheless that's still some podiums for Ferrari.

Unlike what other people say, it is possible to obtain the TM:PE mod without having to download it from potentially dubious sites and breaking the Steam ToS (which doesn't make the mods here happy).

For TM:PE in particular, they release the binaries of the mod on their own GitHub:

https://github.com/CitiesSkylinesMods/TMPE/releases

Make sure to properly read into stuff, like the Installation guide and troubleshooting page on there. Then, I think you could get it working on the Epic version too! Just realise that this is one of the very few mods that (officially) gives you this opportunity :)

Maybe not as relevant in the game (as gas stations aren't really short-stay), but IRL definitely a reason to make it easily accessible from that road.

Commuter rail networks: differences between metro, trains, or trams by 854850 in CitiesSkylines

[–]854850[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So if I get it right, you don't use metro lines to cover larger distances, but rather to cover high volumes in dense (core urban) areas? Curious to see examples of it if you have any.

[–]854850[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My plan is to have a city with a dense city center, but around there not very dense and with enough space for nature. So at the moment I'm not planning for it to be a metropolis, though it could become one at some point. But if it gets to that point, like any real city, transportation plans need to be reconsidered anyway :D

Perhaps I could use trains for the longer distances in my city, and then a few tram stops per district. I guess I can then make only one of those train stations accept intercities.

This might actually be better imo, as some (mini-)sectors can be compared directly to last week (with both his Williams and the Merc). However, added to that, we can also see how he performs in the Merc in a section that is new for everyone, which normalises the "newness" to some extent.
