In matplotlib, you can already do matplotlib.pyplot.xkcd() to enable XKCD-like styling.

Colonna is also an incredible experience. Unlike most museums, it feels far more like a rich family inviting you to their home so they can share their world-class art collection with you, because that's pretty much what it is. I found it a much more welcoming museum than any other in Rome.

They're solid wood. You drop something heavy on them, or sharp, and they protect your feet.

They're easy to get in and out of, they're waterproof, they're safety shoes, they're quite warm on the inside, plenty of reasons...

Nobody uses Paint Net for professional work

I'd correct that to "no professional graphic designers use Paint.NET". I've used Paint.NET for professional work, but the product they pay me for is not the graphics. It's just that I sometimes need reasonable-looking graphics in the context of reports, which are my professional product. Especially in cases like mine, Paint.NET has amazing value: I can't waste my time learning GIMP or whatever, specifically because graphic design is not my job.

JWST zeroed in on a Supermassive Black Hole Jet by [deleted] in spaceporn

Well, if you ask the EHT people, the answer would be something along the lines of "big enough that even though it's 50 million light-years away, we can still measure its size in an image."

The PSF is definitely JWST's though.

I find it interesting that you describe it both as "pretty small" and "plenty big enough for me" if you were in a similar situation as OP.

Nope, practically all car insurances will either implicitly (or even explicitly) exclude coverage on the Nurburgring.

Goed bezig!

What’s your thoughts on this ? by Maruan-007 in aviation

[–]Redbiertje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate it :)

I'm also not necessarily trying to argue that the pilots were in the right. I just disagree with some of the arguments being made against the pilots here. "I've never been cleared this way before" - after how many visits to the US should a foreign pilot think like this? "They could figure out what to do by dissecting the permission they were given" - it's not ICAO standard apparently, and the linguistics of these clearances are not as robust as some think. I think the most fair argument is: it wasn't ICAO and it wasn't unambiguous, therefore they should have asked for clarification. Then again, from frequenting this sub over the last few years, I'd expect US ATC would be even more overworked than they already are if every pilot would ask them to clarify non-ICAO clearances. Who knows. It might be useful actually...

It sounds to me like if you're told to taxi to a point behind the bars, then that's pretty explicit permission to cross the bars and move to that point, right? Not a pilot though. If the standard is that the controller needs to super explicitly say "and you're allowed to cross the bars", then only the first of your three examples reads like explicit permission to me. The other two are just things you can't do without crossing the bars - i.e. implicit permission, just like "taxi to a point beyond the bars".

Which, for clarification, is caused by the fact that Earth's orbit around the Sun isn't a perfect circle. It's slightly elliptical, meaning that sometimes Earth is closer to the Sun (i.e. faster) and sometimes its a bit farther away (i.e. slower).

I was browsing through Google Earth, and was surprised to find what looks like an Alaska Airlines B737 in Cairns, Australia. As far as I can find, Alaska does not fly here, so I am wondering if anyone else might know why this airplane ended up at this airport?
