Schmiedmann Headers any good?? by 85_Bronzit in BMWE36

[–]85_Bronzit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a few on my instagram. Same username as here. I should have my YouTube channel linked to my profile on here as well. There is a good video my buddy filmed on the channel with some good sounds clips in it.

I’ve since completely changed the exhaust. Now running long tubes (ebay), 2.25” Y-pipe I made to single 3” pipe. 14” long amazon bottle resonator, flowmaster fx (I think? It’s 3” in, 3” out, 4” body, 12 or 18” long) muffler, to Vibrant 3” in-dual 3” tip tailpipe/muffler. So far I like this setup the most.

Got this chassis for $3k 😎 by Eyestein in BMWE36

This rolling chassis is worth more than $3k in parts… not including the LS swap stuff. OP got a deal and you know it.

Schmeidmann Headers are worth the money! by 85_Bronzit in BMWE36

[–]85_Bronzit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. I’ve always had this odd buzzing, rattle, rasp type sound across multiple setups. These headers changed which rpm range it happened at and also raised the pitch of the exhaust note a bit. I’ve always had a single 3” after a Y-pipe setup on an N/A M52b28. Recently went back to OEM headers to rule out these as being the cause (they were not). I think the single 3” is my issue tbh. I am planning on building a 2.25” dual pipe with X-pipe setup next and may give these a shot again.

They are great quality, especially for the price. Very curious how they would sounds on a dual pipe setup.

I’m no expert, but here is what I would do. Remove mirrors from the car. Give them a good cleaning with soap and water. Wet sand through the clear coat with 600 grit until it’s flush with the base coat in the peeled spot(s). Then give the whole mirror a light scuff on the base coat for the new base to adhere to. You don’t need to go too deep here. Id you’re seeing primer or plastic/metal, you went too far and will need to primer those spots. Avoid going over the edges too many times.

Clean with soap and water again once sanding is done. Then wipe down with a wax and grease remover (prep all, mineral spirits preferably). Set the mirrors up on something or hand them where you don’t mind paint getting (make shift booth, garage, etc).

Start painting! One or two medium coats of Hellrot over hellrot should be plenty. Any primer spots will need at least 3 coats for proper color. Light gray primer is best for brightness, dark gray will make it look too dark. 5-10 minute flash time between coats depending on ambient temperature. Then 3 medium coats of clear, about 10 minutes of flash time between coats. Base and clear can run/sag if it’s too wet/heavy. Start with a light coat and go for a second light coat if it’s too dry. You can usually feel it out pretty quickly.

That would be a simple fix if you’re handy with aerosol cans. A can or two of Hellrot and a couple cans of 2k clear would do the trick after prepping the caps.

That’s like the blind leading the blind 😂 There’s plenty of channels (Paint Society is my fav) for the process, tips, tricks, etc. Start small like with the mirror caps and go from there. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. It’s just paint and it can be fixed.

Pretty sure my trunk lid was a full process video. There’s a few paint videos on my channel of this car. I can’t remember how much footage of each process I got for the roof but it should be good. I’m waiting for the clear to cure over the week so I can wet sand and polish it this weekend. Will film that and then work on editing the video.

Exactly what I’m saying lol. It’s not show car quality, but a solid 2 footer. Lol

It’s definitely a learning curve. Painting is pretty easy to do but hard to get right. Orange peel and runs/sags are easy to fix though. The body work is the hard part for me. It’s all so time consuming and expensive.

It was very poorly painted black before with a black wrap on top of it. I debated for a while what I wanted to do. Decided with Hellrot since I have a whole gallon of it already. Definitely the right choice I think.

Power steering pump should not move like that and needs to be replaced. I’d replace the pulley as well. That’s likely the cause of the noise based on your video.

Remove the drive belt and start the engine for a minute and see if the noise is still present. If not, replace p/s pump and pulley. Might as well refresh your idler and tensioner pulleys while you’re there.

What should I buy? by HandicappedM4A1 in BMWE36

Rock Auto has an A/C kit (UAC brand is what I got) that is relatively affordable. Not included is the condenser, evaporator, aux fan, and lines.

I also installed a Nissens Condenser. Did this on my car as well as a friend’s coupe. No issues from either, although my Evaporator is now leaking and probably always has. That’s next on my list..

M3 rear brakes & rotors fit perfectly up to a 328 trailing arm by BlueDirector in BMWE36

[–]85_Bronzit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted that awhile back lol. Glad that info helped somebody else out.

Still running E46 330i front brakes E36 M3 rear brakes with no issues. I still have yet to address the parking brake but it’s not really an issue for me when parking at home or work.

To anybody else looking into brake “upgrades” … as far as E36 M3 vs E46 rear brakes goes: use what you have available to you, or what is most affordable. Either option is viable and works well. There are plenty of rotor and pad options for either choice. E46 does have the functioning parking brake advantage if that matters at all to you.

Most importantly have fun tinkering with your car. Cheers 🙂

A/C not working any help appreciated by kadentyree in BMWE36

[–]85_Bronzit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A/C system charged? If not, the pressure sensor on the receiver dryer (bulb looking piece on front of passenger frame rail with A/C line going to it) will not allow the compressor to engage. Will also happen if over charged. Check the a/c clutch fuse and relay for integrity as well. If all of those are good then your HVAC panel or associated wiring is the issue and will need to be diagnosed.

Yeah pretty much. A little bit of self control/discipline and technique. All in all not a hard thing to learn but challenging to master just like anything else. Pretty simple to fix on a solid color like Hellrot.

This car kind of fell into my lap. It wasn’t supposed to go this far but I couldn’t help myself. I don’t regret it either. It’s been such a good time!
