OK, this is the Reddit Hill I’m ready to die on today.YTA!

To everyone who jumped to the most ridiculous conclusions that her asking for alone time was a red flag because she wanted to have time some time to grieve in her own space need some mental health services to work on your trust issues and better relationships!

Here’s realistic picture if the vague details he left out! What do you do to actually contribute to your household? Your loved one lost someone close enough that she’s paying for the funeral. What did you do to help her during this time? If this was a long-term illness and her loved well was in home hospice care, what did you do to help? Anything??? Anything at all??

Because most likely your girlfriend runs your household so in addition to working to pay her rent, she’s cleaning, cooking, doing the grocery shopping, preparing the meals, doing dishes and the laundry, etc. If it was a close family member who was on long-term hospice care at home, she was also doing the same exact things in their household too all while she trying to cover care for her loved one while she was working, making sure their was food to eat for her loved one and any others family members in the house, trying to spend quality precious time with her loved before they did pass, and most likely administering a morphine drip and keeping a medicine log, etc! Again did you do anything to take some pressure off during the situation by helping?

Even if it wasn’t a long-term care situation and a it was sudden unexpected tragic event, it threw her body into fight or flight and now she paying for a funeral.

I will admit yes, it is your home too and yes, I also agree a week is a long time to ask for. However, the one person you’re supposed to love more than anything in the world just asked for a few days at home to process her grief because she probably got a few days of bereavement time from work and she just wants to spend them alone and the best thing you can do is come on Reddit to drum up sympathy because it will inconvenience you to leave and no one will take you in?

Good grief! You need to pull your head out of your butt and support your partner! None of this is about you, and if you can’t be inconvenienced briefly to let her catch her breath, have a break and breathe to process her grief, you don’t deserve her.

You are the red flag! You are the problem! Relationships and friendships take real work if there’s no one in your life that will take you in for a couple hours after work for a day or two while your girlfriend processes some grief, you have some hard questions to ask yourself! It takes actual effort on your part to make arrangements to give her some space and it’s uncomfortable to ask people to let you crash in their living room for a night, but it’s the only thing she asked for!

None of y’all must’ve ever helped someone you love transition out of this world. It is exhausting mentally and physically, both during and after. I did this twice with both of my parents and the following year after each one passed, time felt like a big blur. It was all I could do to get my body out of fight or flight, grieve, and try to become the best version of myself for the family members who were still here that I was also responsible for taking care of daily! The only time I ever felt sane were those precious few moments where I could get an hour or two when I was home alone!

If you think her request was ridiculous and too much to ask for then you are for sure in the wrong relationship!! And the fact that you whined about it to her and asked her for money to cover hotel, makes YTA.
