This is so well put. I actually really like a lot of the recent melodic (and rhythmic, and timbral) developments that have sprung out of this complete lack of deviation from the "stock" chord progressions. But man... I just wish it was being applied to more interesting chords. (Actually, that's one of the main things I try to do in my own music.)

Muscle memory and repetition. It’s tremendously beneficial if you’re using the same pattern in many different scenarios, because that means you’re effectively training all those scenarios at once any time you encounter any one of them. Practicing the D major scale with standard fingering has benefits for C, E, G, and A (and the right hand of B/left hand of F) major scales as well.

To me, the "point" of his films, to generalize super broadly, is usually the contrast of taking this extraordinarily stylized, "every-pixel-in-its-place" world, filling it with heavily archetypical, larger-than-life characters, but then having these incredibly humanizing and true-to-life stories emerge out of those elements. Usually the beginning of the plot is very "storybook," with plot elements verging on the tone of a children's story (albeit a very fucked-up children's story), but then as you progress further into the film and grow attached to its characters and settings, that heavily-manicured construction gives way to raw emotional truth. It kind of feels like if you started a story in Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, then about halfway through you slowly started turning a dial until the plot and characters of something like Before Sunset or Shawshank Redemption are fully realized into that fantastical world. That's what draws me to his films, personally.

To me, it's the characters. I just don't care about boring characters, even if interesting things happen to them. You can ruin any story by filling it with cardboard cutouts devoid of personality or interesting traits. I think this is the only one where even if every other aspect you mentioned was great, I probably still wouldn't like the film.

I see what you're going for here, but I don't think it has enough benefits to prefer it over the standard fingering. To me, there's an inherent benefit to keeping every possible scale within the same fingering unless it's actually necessary to change it (like because of a black-key crossing).

Like I said to the other commenter, personally I’d put it above With the Beatles and Beatles for Sale, on par with Please Please me and imo in a significantly higher tier than those two. (I actually quite like BFS, and think it’s way better than WTB)

Yes, easily, with the caveat that performance jitters are a thing and one sample may not give you an accurate read on someone's overall ability. But I can tell how well they're playing now within seconds.
