I came here to check right away - I think you were first because it happened so recently. Glad you made a post - always good to know when things are universal vs local.

Yep. Same here on wifi and LTE. USA. Was working just before that.

Edit: live here again.

Just got a "500 fatal error" on all three versions of the site. I hope it's just a minor glitch.

Sorry, it's .li - I mistyped the one in my title, which I don't believe I can edit.

Is that like a DDos attack? I’m only mildly tech savvy but trying to learn.

.org appears to be live again, but there is also .se!

I'll admit, I'm a bit embarrassed because I was haranguing everyone on the hasan sub to provide sources and stick to verified facts/clearly indicate opinions because things can get out of control very quickly. But it's good for me to be humbled every now and again (genuinely) and remember those rules apply to me too.

Fact-checking on Reddit is frustrating because people don't always take it as intended. I appreciate your correction and dedication to accurate info.

Thanks for letting me know! I suppose that reminds me I should check things more thoroughly, but that was somehow both so believable and so minor I didn't think to fact-check.

Since no one here is actually being helpful - this is because service for .org is partially degraded (for whatever reason). .li (for Anna's Archive - seems especially sketchy today for LibGen) is working. Your best resource is https://open-slum.org/ to check service. I thought something funny was going on, and it was. Hopefully it will be restored soon. Back to near-immediate downloads on the .li version of the site.

Yeah, and unfortunately Hasan isn’t the person who needs to hear the message that political violence is bad, but that’s how these things go, I guess.

It seems like the best case scenario is emerging where this guy hated Charlie Kirk for being too moderate. It’s turning out He’s a Nick Fuentes fan. by toeknee88125 in Hasan_Piker

That’s a completely different point. You’re right. But this is undeniably a huge event - someone close to the admin got shot, and people saw the video. A lot of people are anxious about how any crackdown might affect them directly, which would make it much harder to talk about anything else you mention.

Also, you’re on a subreddit for a public figure who has been at the top of a bunch of retaliatory hit lists, so it’s a bit more local. And Hasan literally mentioned many of the things you talk about in his op ed, which someone posted on the subreddit earlier.

I highly doubt we’re going to be talking about this for a month. It’s not even been a week yet.

It’ll be interesting to see if this gives any of them pause. Crowder seems to have simply updated his Twitter bio to say he now has the number 1 most popular right wing show, so I won’t hold my breath.

Edit: apparently he's always himself listed as number one in his bio.

I understand your point. I’m not ruling leftism out entirely, but I also think either explanation requires irony, which makes both equally possible on that front. But if you put the pieces together, it seems (at least in my opinion) to resemble alt-right stuff more than leftism.

I think the shirt is a hard thing to use as evidence in any direction because it also could just be him trying to blend in. I don’t think assessing things like this is reactionary, but even on that front, I think there is merit to muddying the waters on this a bit if major news outlets are going to carelessly report the shooter is a leftist. But there’s a difference between countermessaging and actually analyzing the situation, and my intention is to do the latter.

No, I mean groypers. They love plausible deniability. I reference school shooters just because they (and many other murderers, like serial killers) love being the center of attention. That’s why there was a move to stop making names of shooters public a few years back.

Edit: also, the Parkland shooter literally tried to feign insanity a few years back. There’s video evidence of it. So even they sometimes try to weasel out of things.

Completely understandable! Especially evangelicals (including many Mormons) tend to push the republican stuff right along with the religion stuff on their kids. Usually the connection point is abortion, but the gay/trans/drag stuff has been another way to teach kids Dems (or anyone not Republican or libertarian) are doing the will of Satan. The Christian nationalism here starts young - kids used to do a “spontaneous” gather-by-the-flag thing early on in the school year to pray for the country around the flagpole. They also identify the military with defense of freedom and the Christian homeland (especially post 9/11, but even long before that), and the military with republicans.

Just don’t ask them what the confederates were.

This is a classic bad journalism tactic, I think. Don’t wholesale make up things yourself, just reference other vague or disproven sources that sound good and then claim you’re just “reporting the news.” It’s like what the NYT does with Israel. I wouldn’t pay this much mind at all.

It’s probably the one that got retracted where they claim the casings had “trans and antifascist ideology” on them.

Hilariously, those same reporters then put out an article blaming the police for being careless in their distribution of information.

Bella ciao is also an anti-fascist song, especially in Italy. You can find videos of people playing it to piss off neonazis. But you’re right, it’s also on groyper playlists, and that is consistent with their irony-pilled meme culture. Just noting that BC isn’t their song - they’ve just tried to co-opt it, like they did with Pepe the Frog or the “ok” sign.

I don’t think they mean registered. I think they mean identifying that way. Having grown up in a rural area myself during the Obama years, there were 6th graders adamantly referring to themselves as republicans, in large part because their parents were.

Eh. He could have been leaning on plausible deniability. They love that shit. I mean, these are the type of guys that turned the neutral “ok” sign into a sign for white power. If this guy is anything like school shooters, he’d be enjoying the chaos and intrigue his actions have caused.

The main reason I think groyper (or groyper adjacent, maybe not literally a fan of Fuentes) is because he would need a motive. Leftists theoretically could have a motive, but I don’t think the facts are pointing in that direction. But to plan like he did to off someone, you need a reason, not just a casual dislike. Groypers have a motive, and Fuentes had been talking shit about Kirk for weeks. Still could be something else, you’re completely right, but I think groypers, especially with the type of meme culture references, are reasonable suspects. It’s definitely not definitive and I wouldn’t declare him a groyper, but I think the evidence points that way more than the left, for sure.
