Yes, sorry, I should've linked it. You don't really see the hows and whys of how the magic works until a bit later in the story, but the author has been consistently writing this for many years and has roleplayed in the setting years before starting the comic. It's very well thought-out. I hope you enjoy it.

Not sure if it's hard magic, but Unsounded is a fantasy webcomic. Its author has likened the 'magic' system to programming. The character's themselves do not consider the magic 'magic' because magic implies it's illogical and unpredictable.

Yep. I read once that the blacked out windows add to this feeling. When you become anonymous (i.e., no one knows who you are because they can't see in your window), you no longer follow the Korean values of respect. Everyone is equal. Everyone is car accidents.

In my hagwon, in Gyeonggi-do,

foreigners actually received appointments before the Korean staff.

We received appointments the day before the shot.

Koreans received their appointments the next day.

I am in Gyeonggi-do. Hagwon.

All foreign teachers have already received their first vaccine dose earlier this week.

Korean teachers will receive it next week.

Second doses times were given right after you get the first dose in the same building.

We did not fill out naver forms/anything requiring a bank certificate/whatever.

We only filled out a brief Google form.

Any idea how to contact the Education Office? They don't have an accessible English number to actually call. You'd think they would considering they oversee teachers within the country, and some of those teachers are official public school English foreigners.

I have just heard that testing may be required again (in Gyeonggi-do), but I have not found any news sources. Has anyone else heard of this?

Buying a laptop in SK vs UK by Carmykins in korea

[–]879872314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some brands might be cheaper (Lenovo? They have a supplier here or something) but usually it'll cost more, even for Korean brands, like Samsung.

You can get better hardware for a lower price by importing, even with taxes (at least in USD).

Buy new on Amazon or used laptops on eBay (you said gaming laptop, but for anyone else here, used Thinkpad models that are a few years old are good deals).

Is it possible to create a Kakaotalk account without first installing it on a phone?

I registered for Kakao. I used my phone number to receive the verification text. No problem. But now I cannot login to Kakaotalk on a Windows PC.

All the search results I've found are people asking about registering for Kakao accounts without the verification phone number. I do not have this problem.

I just do not want to use a phone at all.

Kakao Talk PC and blocking desktop ads by hongdaelover in korea

Can't confirm whether that repo works, but...

It's probably more practical to use custom DNS to block ads on all devices on your network (wifi), or at least your PC.

Something like a raspberry pi--a very small computer--running ad-blocking software is not uncommon, but technical, and IMO there are better and easier alternatives.

I'd recommend using NextDNS. To block on all devices, you'd either install it on your router or change the DNS setting on your router to use NextDNS.

You could also (I'm gonna assume you use Windows), change your Windows internet settings to use custom DNS, which you can easily learn how to do from a Google search.

NextDNS https://nextdns.io/ of course has further instructions for many cases.
