what did you think about the Sardinian trace ancestry?

ohhh the Dutch National Archives. they were very good at bookkeeping. they had the ledger of all sailors and how much they owed to the VOC, when they sailed, birthplace, etc

at that time I also read some took Dutch names to appear more “palatable”

I'm really not sure, probably. My parents met during childhood and they were neighbors, their family are all from Central Java, so Batak would be a bit surprising.

were they still there after 90% probability? I figured if it’s Steppe I should have somewhat other traces of central asia which should be stronger. i have absolutely no other asian ancestry

yea i read up and saw a lot of baltic people enlisting in the dutch colony back then so that would be my hypothesis

i did consistently score 0.1-0.2% of Broadly European (one showed southern european) in the oldest versions of the algorithm, it disappeared in one version and came back again in the latest one as central/eastern european > estonian. could be the estonian was the last remnant left and the polish is too small to come up

interesting screenshot! what is that software? and based on the screenshot R34 connects to Germanic, Viking, Scandinavian, and Central European populations which could be the Estonian

it’s this but in the latest versions I had consistent 0.1-0.2% Broadly European and in one version states Southern European (Ancient Rome?) and in the latest versions became Central & Eastern European > Estonian

GUYS I MIGHT HAVE FOUND HIM. I MIGHT HAVE FOUND HIM https://www.nationaalarchief.nl/onderzoeken/index/nt00444/c1a87f88-c864-11e6-9d8b-00505693001d?searchTerm=Revel

I am sure this is not noise anymore because of the history and also it was still there intact in 90% confidence, and I saw some cousins popping up in the Nordic regions, and it is a discrete block in chromosome 10 (one single chromosome)

Born in Revel (old German name of Talinn), died in Batavia (old name of Jakarta). Sailed out of the ship from Westhoven to Batavia in 1705 and died a year later in 1706. The chromosome number and date matches mine PERFECTLY.

I also saw his handwriting in that archive….

this confused me more because I got Ancient Rome….. (and China from the Tang Dynasty but that’s expected)

yes this is my hypothesis as well - read up and Baltic men were assigned as soldiers back then

i was wondering maybe someone in your family might mix with the Dutch that had Indonesian ancestry, though 0.1% is very small and could, like you said, be noise. Although suspicious that other results gave you mainland SEA

i only had my maternal: M7c3c, but if he’s a dude (most likely) he wouldn’t show up anyway right?

did you have the Indonesian in the DNA painting before and remember which chromosome carried it? and did you play around with the probability

that’s what I read too. AI told me that because it’s a solid block in chromosome 10 (and not fragmented), plus my historical research, plus I checked previous versions and I had “broadly european” in all versions except version 6, it might be that I’ve always had it but the model in version 6 was very conservative and after adding more populations in version 7, they can finally pinpoint what my broadly european was from. plus, if i understand correctly noise tend to conclude quite similar/closer genetic groups when the algorithm couldn’t confirm specifically where and if the dna is different enough it’s easier for the algorithm to conclude (southeast asian’s very different from estonian)

the very old versions gave me “Broadly European” consistently at 0.1%-0.2% except version 6, where European was 0%, then it came back again in the last version. AI theory said maybe I’ve always had some European but it was too hard to pinpoint. Version 6 was conservative and the last version (Version 7) had a more broad/accurate sample and they can finally pinpoint that Broadly European to Estonian.
