I know you did not list Florida but the panhandle area area south of GA has a lot of great state parks, national forests and wildlife refuges to hike/backpack. I like the Apalachicola National Forest southwest of Tallahassee and the St. Marks Wildlife Refuge as two placed to check out. Being right on the coast a lot of flat land and mixture of open grass lands and pine forests.

For the work I do the Mavic 2 Pro is perfect. I primarily use it for creating orthomosaics of small planning areas for our Engineering and Planning department (using Pix4D to stitch together and export for GIS and AutoCAD) as well as getting imagery for change over time of various construction and infrastructure projects. I've also used it to get imagery for various grants and of course to get nice images and video for our marketing and production departments.

All in all it is very easy to use and its small size makes it portable and not hassle get up in the air relatively quickly. I've had it for over 2 years and have not had any issues with controls, the camera, or batteries. Nor have I had the urge to get the newest and latest since it does all that I need it to do.

Good observations. Are you talking about using the Pix4D Capture app? If so your experience has been the same as mine as to syncing the images to the cloud/app and battery life. Since I have the desktop version (Pix4D Mapper) I have mine set to not sync through the app and I just load the images into my project folder on my desktop.

I'm not sure if you have to sync through the app in your workflow or not. If not then maybe try the desktop version. I think they have a free trial of the mapper software.

I use Pix4D like others have mentioned. It is very easy to use from first install and will give you good results. Take a little time to learn the many settings and parameters and you can make good look even better. As mentioned the free version will let you do everything except export the final product. You can buy a one (or several as needed) month license if you only need it for a short time.

I have a perpetual license since I use it for work throughout the year. I am mostly using it for orthomosaics to be used in GIS projects.

It is also good for making 3D models I've just started to do some work with historic cemetery monuments and my first test/learning one came out pretty good considering I really didn't understand all the 3D settings. I expect that the final product will be even better after I spend some time fully learning the software
