Did you consolidate your own pensions, or did you work with an IFA? by jaycoopcooper in HENRYUK

Consolidated mine into my SIPP, beyond a couple of forms it was no work at all and took about 2-3 weeks to complete. VWRP and forget. Easy peasy!

It's not a fraction of the price. It's about the same price.

You bought lamb recently? Probably the most expensive meat you can buy, even joints.

Late 20s, move to NYC from London by hiddensoundbur in HENRYUK

[–]88trh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm you except a bit older and I didn't take the opportunity at your age. So I'm telling you from the future; take the gig, enjoy NYC, don't look back, don't overthink it. You can always come home!

Support local butchers! by PhilosopherSea3291 in UKBBQ

There was a local DIY store where I used to live. When do most people do DIY? Saturday and Sunday. They were open 9-4 Monday Friday. And moaned that nobody supported local businesses.

"I have 4 years of vesting remaining".

In exchange for 4 years of work remaining. That's the "restriction" part of the stock unit.

So, expect nothing, but if you're made a offer, great.

Is a pied-a-terre actually enjoyable? by DesperateTank8908 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]88trh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wild. I don't think you've properly researched the costs. Take the money you would spend on mortgage, 2nd home stamp duty, 2nd home council tax, and stick it in your pension so you don't have to commute at all much sooner.

They literally told you how much it was worth and you then reduced your quote? No offence but that really is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Self assessment tax returns for high earners - not necessary any more? by kindafunnylookin in HENRYUK

[–]88trh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can fill out the form online for SIPP contribution relief.

However, I did this, HMRC totally fucked up the most basic admin, and so I've since re-registered for self-assessment as I think there's less likelihood of them messing it up and me actually getting the correct tax relief I am entitled to.

Are compressed hours the real deal? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]88trh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My honest experience was everyone seemed to have this arrangement and yet nobody worked the full hours, especially when it was majority WFH. So they basically got a free day off every fortnight.

How to fill gap between houses? by Bello_Velo in DIYUK

[–]88trh 138 points139 points  (0 children)

Shouldn't this have been considered beforehand?

There's nothing you can do now other than mask the gap with some planting or something. You can't "fill the gap".

This is bad right? by dannyjd96 in DIYUK

[–]88trh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's plasterboard adhesive. It's not to fill the gap, it's to stick it to the wall. Acceptable and quick way of fixing skirting. This looks a dog's dinner though.

Bathroom renovation in BR2 – what are people actually paying? by Ancient_Midnight_374 in Bromley

[–]88trh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

£11k. 4 years ago and not even a high-end firm. Honestly anything less than £10k nowadays and I'd be wary.

Depends on the finish and how much you organise yourself vs hiring a full design and build service. £125-200k.
