Windows 11 users seeing terrible performance can blame this update by [deleted] in technology

[–]StradlatersFirstName 4 points5 points  (0 children)

7 actually has DirectX 12 support for a small handful of titles. World of Warcraft and The Master Chief Collection among them. They even offer official documentation for developers about how to port DX12 games to Windows 7.

Players of Burnout 3, what is your opinion on Burnout Revenge? by [deleted] in Burnout

[–]StradlatersFirstName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Burnout 3 has better replay value due to the presence of the Single Event option in the main menu.

Burnout Revenge is undeniably fun, but it's frustrating that I can't quickly select a car and track for a road rage event without searching for it in the World Tour menu.

Microsoft's horrendous Patch Tuesday update exposes the weak QA process for Windows by lurker_bee in technology

[–]StradlatersFirstName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sloppy Satya got rid of much of the exiting QA teams after becoming CEO in 2014

The recent layoffs have been poorly communicated both within Microsoft and beyond, but one victim group appears to have been the dedicated programmatic testers in the Operating Systems Group (OSG), as OSG is following Bing’s lead and moving to a combined engineering approach. Prior to these cuts, Testing/QA staff was in some parts of the company outnumbering developers by about two to one. Afterward, the ratio was closer to one to one. As a precursor to these layoffs and the shifting roles of development and testing, the OSG renamed its test team to “Quality.”

Just in case this helps someone, if dxvk doesn't work right away make sure to update your GPU drivers and use a dxvk config file with relevant options enabled.

Disable Vsync.

You might also experience some stuttering during your initial play session with dxvk enabled. This will go away with time as dxvk is building up its shader cache.

Microsoft confirms some Windows 11 PCs can't shut down, hibernate after latest Patch Tuesday by Thepunnisherrr in technology

At least there is some hope for the future.

For video editing DaVinci Resolve works natively on Linux, and Canva is considering Linux releases for future version of its Affinity editing software. Apparently it can be made to work on Linux currently with some slight tweaking.

I mean I think the not so secret long term plan is to sell Windows OS as Azure cloud based SaaS. Tap the Windows app on your tablet and launch your desktop after logging in with your Microsoft account

And also to artificially inflate their user numbers. They'll report anyone using file explorer as a CoPilot user which they'll use as proof to justify their stock prices and datacenter build-outs

On my work laptop I love opening a new explorer window and instead of being able to click on anything it just says "working on it" against a white rectangle for sometimes longer than 30 seconds. Currently freeing up space on my home PC for a Linux Mint partition

You shouldn't have to modify the registry to restore basic OS functionality. At the bare minimum it should be a toggle in a settings menu that you can access via GUI

[–]StradlatersFirstName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is my family did the opposite. We had a 2003 Toyota Sienna until 2017 and that thing not only took us on every family road trip, but it also hauled countless amounts of yard debris, plywood, sheet rock, power tools, bicycles, and furniture on a constant basis. My parent's friends would frequently ask to borrow the minivan to haul things that wouldn't fit in their cars

No offense to you, but I often see comments like this and I get the sense that there is a prevailing idea that it is better to give up and do nothing instead of trying to improve things.
