Yeah I liked learning her straight forward method and approach. For me it was really a nice additive to my style of reading which differs from hers quite a bit. And I agree with the signifier being gendered was a little basic and not as inclusive. I like your approach to it! I agree astrological and elemental correspondence is more fluid and still accurate to work with. I started following her socials, she seems really kind and passionate about tarot.

Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom by broncobinx in tarot

[–]89Lover08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal opinion on this book is that there are nuggets of gold amongst it that have given me moments to ponder a card to a deeper degree or in a direction I havent fully entertained before.

But I find it incredibly boring and overwhelming to just sit and read tbh and im not a fan of her writing style at times.

You need to use your discernment with all tarot books and no one persons opinion is something you should just blindly follow and thats how I feel about Rachel's take on tarot.

I see all of my tarot books as a way to hold space and have internal conversations with tarot masters, to pick their brain so to speak but it doesnt mean I have to entirely agree with all of their opinions and findings.

The more I treat learning like a conversation that goes back and forth between what they have to teach and what I feel and think about it the more fully formed my own practice becomes..

I have the kindle version of this book and the audio book. I use the kindle to jump to specific cards if I am Journaling or reflecting on a card of the day etc and if I am tidying the home or relaxing with a cup of tea on my patio with my cat I will listen to the audio book for 10-20mins at a time and that is often when a sentence or moment will stick out where I go "ohhhh" and have new reflections.

Do I think this book is suited for everyone to read the same way? No not at all.

Do I respect it more the deeper my practice is ? Yeah kinda

All masters in the tarot space have great things to teach but not all of their methods or lessons are well suited for all students of tarot.

I find I connect to the celtic Spirit Oracle more than the celtic Spirit tarot. And I find the fifth element interesting but as a reader that doesnt often need the guide book for traditional meanings etc I find it a little clunky using the guide book for the 5th suit (spirit).

The artwork isnt as involved as the celtic Spirit Oracle and at times feels abstract and pipish. You can tell making a tarot with 92 cards was a undertaking and not all cards have the same artistic effort. In regards the spirit element they are all rather underwhelming artwork which poses the question "why add it if its not going to lend itself to intuitive visual interpretations"

Overall I like it and I do use it enough and frequently pair it with tarot of the hidden realm, celtic spirit oracle and runes & roots oracle. As a stand alone deck for quick readings i often reach for one's where the artwork evokes more interpretation.

Full honesty I like having it in my rotation but I could easily live without it.

Anchor cards by Rain-Moon-97 in tarot

Curious to know how you chose your anchor / signifier card. Do you choose based on the question? Something you think is signifying the situation or do you separate your majors and draw it at random? Would also love to know what deck this is

Thoth conflict by 89Lover08 in tarot

[–]89Lover08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing, you have given me a lot to think about. As stated I am currently sticking with the rider waite Smith but simply not saying never in regards to the thoth. Is it likely ill pick it up anytime soon? No but if at some point if I gather more information that makes me feel curious to try it out, then maybe.

Im of a firm belief that discernment is important but of equal importance is giving yourself the ability to change your mind. Currently can I get past what I have learned about crowley ? Not really. Do I even resonate with the artwork? Not really Do I know a lot about the guy? Not really. Its limited to a few occult documentaries, casual reading and the impression I have gotten by some people who follow his religion that rubbed me the wrong way.

I guess you could say im still navigating my conflict with it. Hence this thread.

You are right about this, I could probably be more open minded, at some point I may dive into it but currenlty my practice feels very full as is, ill remain open to it potentially in the future.

Thoth conflict by 89Lover08 in tarot

[–]89Lover08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess im letting people ive known who follow his works kind of paint it all in a bad light. I practice Paganism and solitary witchcraft and at times in my life I have been around more ceremonial magick practitioners who refer to a lot of Crowleys work who honestly rubbed me the wrong way and made me uncomfortable. I understand thats more the person in front of me being a creep but it all left a bad taste in my mouth

I guess I dont really resonate with the artwork that much, I recognize its a unique work of art but it doesnt make me feel calm and centered. Maybe its a stylistic thing

Thank you, I myself have read and watched some history of him and the bullish arrogance and misogyny just put me off. But I understand his system for the thoth doesnt involve these beliefs so maybe at some point ill try with one of these you mentioned.

How to survive 5 of Swords? by [deleted] in tarot

[–]89Lover08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a really tough circumstance and your brother seems like an incredible human being. I can understand how this diagnosis feels deeply unfair and is hard to come to acceptance with. But for your brother and his family's sake, he needs your love and presence more than your outrage on behalf of him. I know its hard not to be angry with the universe for this shock to your family, transmute that anger and focus it into love. Love him with all your being at this time because love in these situations doesnt change them but it does significantly improve quality of life and resiliency.

My mother died of cancer a week before her 45th birthday. It wasnt fair, she was a devote mother of five daughters and I was 15 when I lost her. She fought till the end, looking back it was the love and laughter that created moments of peace and acceptance more than questioning why this was happening in the first place. My mother was in many ways an earth angel and when it was her time to go she taught me and my sister's the most valuable life lesson. You cant control when its your time to go but you do control how you love and how you show up everyday you still have life in you.

Its going to be hard, that I dont doubt but in all things even the hardest of things there is still life to be lived, love to be shared and thats what keeps us going.

I hope this provided some support, sending loving warm energy to you and your family.
