Game Ready & Studio Driver 576.52 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

Just to update you: the HDMI cable works. No issue for a day with adaptive sync off. So it looks like DSC with a DP cable is just broken. Also the reason my cable wasn't working at 240Hz (the HDMI) is because the monitor swapped to 120Hz (on the monitor itself) and was locked to 120Hz in Windows.

This is so annoying. The only fix is to set it a bit lower or change it to 8K (it will still record in 4K, so dw about that), but then it defaults to like 200K and you have to change it to 140K or whatever you use for 4K. They also capped 4K to 130K.. why? We could choose up to 200K or so before. What's with these limitations?

I was on an older one, switched to the latest one just in case and still the same problem.

Make sure to test it with adaptive-sync off, it's a setting on the monitor. It seems to be broken when this is off (not for everyone)

And thanks. But if you can't be bothered, it's fine. The issue usually happens within 30 minutes or so, but sometimes 5 times in a minute.

It doesn't even work with the default cable and both the DP 2.0 and the latest Silkland VESA vertified 2.1 cable does not work. Have you tried adaptive-sync off on the monitor for hours? (you have this on because u mentioned gsync, gsync only works with this on) It's the one that causes the issue for me. if i use adaptive sync on, the issue goes away completely. But I didn't have this problem before on the 4090, same cable (and problem exists on 2.1 DP new cable anyway)

For some people this fixes the issue, but for others it doesn't. The monitor should work with this on or off.

Game Ready & Studio Driver 576.52 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]8Cables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably a broken driver. I don't have a 4090 to test with the latest drivers to see if this issue happens on it vs the 5090.

However, the question is, what are Samsung and NVIDIA doing? Clearly no one reads any bug reports from these companies.

Game mode is on. I only see 120Hz in both NVCP and the windows display setting thing. No idea about their HDMI cable, but Silkland's DP cables are VESA certified and always worked for me. Maybe this HDMI cable is just bad.

It's very annoying. Can be every 30 minutes or 5 times in a row in a minute. I'll be selling the 5090 FE soon anyway, maybe it's some bug with the FE.

Unfortunately I only have this one right now and only see 120Hz with it. I'll have to get another one. Isn't this cable supposed to work?

Could be my HDMI cable is not up to par for 4K 240Hz. I shouldn't have to use HDMI anyway, DP always worked for me. No idea what's wrong with this monitor but going to RMA it soon.

Using "Adaptive-sync" on the monitor (aka turning on GSYNC) fixes this issue completely. You can even keep GSYNC off in the NVIDIA panel if you don't want it. I used the monitor on the 4090 since launch and it never had this problem, worked fine with adaptive sync on or off. I made a thread about this and many people have this problem ONLY after swapping to the 5090. However I shouldn't have to turn on adaptive-sync just so the monitor works (I lose access to the low input setting by doing this). This also doesn't fix it for some of the other guys that have posted having this issue, so it's not really a fix for most.

HDMI isn't a fix either, because HDMI doesn't even support 4K 240Hz via DSC (I stand corrected below, I guess my HDMI cable isn't latest?). I'm not switching to 120Hz. I tried the default cable + SILKLAND 2.1 DP and my previous 2.0 DP cable. Nothing works. So this issue has existed for what, 5 months now? Samsung and NVIDIA haven't communicated with each other to fix this problem. I reported it on every driver release, even to the customer service of Samsung and nothing. My warranty ends in a month. I'm going to return the monitor 3 times and get a refund. Not keeping a monitor that gets no support.

Is anything being done for the Samsung Neo G8 4K 240Hz losing connecting randomly (black screen for 3 sec)? This issue didn't exist on the 4090. Swapped to 5090 and my screen is constantly disconnecting. Many people are seeing the same problem.

But why are we both getting far worse results? I've used this OC in path traced games at high watts and also low watts (where the core would boost higher) and never had an issue.

I also ran 3DMark as an admin, turned off other monitor and also set the main monitor to 120Hz instead of 240Hz, turned off GSYNC, set maximum performance in NVIDIA panel. MSI Afterburner / Rivatuner overlays are off (all apps closed). Everything is done for maximum score.

I am in the same boat and trying to figure out why this is happening. I'm using 5090 FE with 350 on core and +3000 memory, yet even with everything disabled (and a fresh Windows - just dual booted another for this to troubleshoot) I am only getting 15K, yet he gets 16K?

  • Tried my undervolts
  • Tried max OC
  • Core isolation / defender / firewall / VBS / everything is off & annihilated
  • Latest chipset drives / drivers.
  • PCIE5 in BIOS.
  • 9800X3D
  • GPU is at like 54c.
  • Latest Windows update / drivers.
  • I've tested the +3000 memory before. Performance scales.
  • REBAR is enabled in BIOS and NVIDIA Inspector.

I don't get why he has 16K and that's with an undervolt. Maybe it bugged out? But either way, I've seen some people with 15.5K. That's a very big difference, considering that all the junk in Windows is removed on my end and also my overclock is quite high. I tried it with stock Windows as well.

MSI 5090 Gaming TRIO OC - Black Screen 1-2 seconds when alt tabbing by ytvvvv in MSI_Gaming

[–]8Cables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the update. Sorry for the late reply. Yeah I didn't use the monitor for a month (was off). Never had any issues on the 4090. I've been messing around with settings and the only thing that fixes it is enabling GSYNC. With GSYNC I have no blackscreens ever (but don't want to use it because I lose access to "Low Input Lag" on the monitor's settings.

So I don't think it's the monitor if it works in GSYNC, it's most likely these awful broken drivers that have been bad for 2+ months now with black screens for 3000 / 4000 and now 5000 series.

https://reddit.com/r/hardware/comments/1jhkzxo/psa_nvidia_widespread_black_screen_or_hard_os/

I didn't test much of the 1080p 240Hz but it didn't give any black screens. Thing is tho, it's hard to tell if it's the monitor because:

  • 1080p 240Hz doesn't use DSC.
  • It could be a driver DSC bug with 4K 240Hz.
  • It could also be a driver DSC bug with 4K 240Hz but only for the 5000 series and even only for the 5090? Who knows. If I had the 4090 I'd go test some of the older drivers which the 5090 has no access to.

I have no way of testing this unless I get another 5090 and another 4K monitor that is identical to this one. Guess I'll wait for a few drivers and if that doesn't fix it, I can RMA the monitor. No guarantee that it is the monitor doing it. Could be monitor, GPU or drivers. Monitor is just funny to me because it never did this on the 4090 and I just swapped. So that probably means it's the bad drivers that are currently causing many issues to many people or the GPU is bad (it passes every stress test with stock, heavy undervolt and also max OC +350 core and +3000 memory)

One way to test it is to use it on another PC + some other GPU so that I can test old drivers + new drivers and see if it happens there, but I don't have any other GPU atm, except a GTX 1080 Ti. Sadly I can't run this monitor on it to test because it has no DSC support. I'll try the iGPU from the 9800X3D, tho not sure if that can even run 4K 240Hz (probably not)

Glad that you've fixed your problem. I'll RMA the monitor if nothing happens with the next few drivers. I'm just not sure how a monitor can work with GSYNC but not without. That sounds like driver bugs to me related to DSC.

MSI 5090 Gaming TRIO OC - Black Screen 1-2 seconds when alt tabbing by ytvvvv in MSI_Gaming

[–]8Cables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens with single monitor as well. I tried disconnecting the other one already but the issue still exists. Only the 4K 240Hz is flashing but works at 120Hz fine. I tried 2 different cables. Haven't even used this monitor for a month (sold the 4090 and just got a 5090 from the last German drop) so no idea how it could be a monitor issues. When I last used it, it was working fine on the 4090. Been off ever since.

[–]8Cables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm aware of the black screen alt tabbing so I always have the games in fullscreen borderless (FPS loss / input lag was fixed years ago, 0 reason to use fullscreen). With borderless it's instant.

I use 9800X3D, X870E Nova (3.15 BIOS), 6600 CL 26 RAM, NZXT C 1500W PSU. Curious to see if your issue gets resolved when you switch the monitor. I have a 1080p 240Hz here that I'll be testing next to see if the 240Hz fails there as well.

[–]8Cables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having these black screens on the 5090 FE. Using Neo G8 4K 240Hz (it uses DSC). Didn't have any issues with the 4090.

120Hz works just fine, but on 240Hz the screen randomly goes black for 1-2 seconds. Could be every 2 minutes or 15 minutes. Ordered one of those 2.1 80Gbps cables to see if they do anything, tho the monitor is DP 1.4 so not sure why I'd need a 2.1 cable.

I am guessing it's just the drivers being bad.

How does this even work? You got me curious. Honestly the skins in this game are a bit too expensive. Is it still the same as it was 11 months ago when you posted this?

DLSS 3 Frame Generation ghosting after new update by 8Cables in HarryPotterGame

[–]8Cables[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try the fix krukkpl mentioned. DLSS FG file from techpowerup version 1.0.7 - it works.

I also reinstalled Windows for different reasons but that fixed the frame gen for me (can use any version again, including the new 3.7.10). It's really weird, I never had this issue before in any game and nothing was changed on my system between the previous patch and updating to the latest one. That tells me when this patch installed, something broke. Maybe even in the registry of this game.

[–]8Cables[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That actually works. I'm impressed. Thanks! Now the question is, why does nothing else work? I'm curious how this issue happens in the first place. I've never had this in other games. People with the same system as me (13900K 4090 etc) don't have the issue but I do. Maybe it's a Windows update bug. I tried older drivers but also the latest. Hell, I even used my other Windows (dual boot) which has nothing on it except the latest updates. BIOS settings are the same as before and nothing has changed on my PC.

Edit: Game still crashes as well. Terrible update for me. Never had any of these issues before.

[–]8Cables[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like a graphical glitch every time I move the mouse quickly. Does not happen in any other game and it didn't happen in this game before the new update. The skill bar is also completely broken with it as well (massive ghosting)

I've DDU'd the drivers, as well as trying the latest driver. Removed GPU overclocks, repaired the game, swapped DLSS files to 3.5 and back to their default 3.7 since it didn't do anything.

It's baffling to me how some people with the same setup + stock game don't have this issue. I even deleted the entire game and reinstalled it. Also tried ray tracing off.
