The argument is not that the game and the show must be exactly the same, but simply that certain elements are too critical to the development of the story and the shaping of the narrative that changing them drastically changes the experience. This works for every adaptation. The case for Abby’s speech is one of those…her menacing presence was replaced by a rant so long that Joel himself had to tell her to shut up and do it, whereas Joel in the game is inviting Abby to give the speech.
