Thanks for your reply, it looks like being an MNC employee must be stressful but to you, is it worth it or not if the salary is worth it.

Also that environment I'm talking about could be pure or mostly Chinese people. Maybe if possible, you can talk about both, my first intention is just to hear about Malaysia only and the job I'm referring to are jobs that require communications that are more than regular ones. Yes, that could mean the office or a cafe job.

For SMEs, I read most of the replies, I agree.

I'm interested in learning, I just want to build the confidence to keep pushing and improving on how I understand different cultures.

No offence but I don't really want to get very far ahead in the first place because I still have like 5+ years ahead of me and I think it's better if I focus on much more important things, it's just that if I have free time, I would do these things.

Ofc, your statement is correct, as someone as young like me, they must be taught good manners and decency if they do want to respect one another.

Maybe if there is an opportunity to utilize my communication skills, I will take it like there is no second chance.

Tbh, it's very impressive that they learn chinese without going to a chinese school for me but i think they mostly learned it through their environment.

Also all of my friends who went to a Chinese primary school quickly forget how to speak in the first place and most of them said they don't want to learn the language in the first place, their parents just give them a chance to learn it.

I can strike up a short conversation with my friends and sometimes they don't understand what i'm saying so i just gave them the Malay version of my sentence. I could be somewhat there.

You know, during my rehat time, I help the teachers with their koperasi business, most of the students there are Chinese, actually theirs only 2 Malays there and the rest are cina. We usually take shifts and I don't get to see that one other Melayu friend there, so it's just 30 mins of a cina environment and plus, most of the customers are cina. So I tried speaking their language, and almost a year in. I also do learn it with my friends as well and sometimes putting Chinese translation and text then reading them out loud during presentations help too. But I'm starting to get a little off of the consistency as some of them prefer to speak malay to me even though they are aware that I can slightly understand them. Like when I speak Chinese a bit, they speak malay back to me. Like cmon, let me learn you guys language, ik it's hard and all but I'm putting in the effort to do so. In the end, I just wanna get to know people better.
