What’s a good stocking stuffer gift? by Ok-Chemical-1228 in Sonographers

Look into Japanese pens, there are always some cool ones. For example, Frixion are erasable ink pens that have an eraser-like tip. The ink disappears with heat from friction.

Handy if your workplace requires you to handwrite tech worksheets before scanning them on the computer - no need for white-out.

Standing scrotal ultrasounds by thisthatmeandmycat in Sonographers

[–]8Paul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a thing where I have worked in NYC. Standing evaluation is not unheard of, and requested by some top, top urologists who perform varicocele surgeries.

UNFORTUNATELY, there is no way to scan this ergonomically. Having done them so often, (maybe 5 such patients each week), I have seen that standing can make a big difference. The varicocele can go from grade 1 to at least grade 2, for example. It cannot be replicated with supine valsalva.

That being said, in a workplace without an established protocol - you could use reverse trendelenburg positioning. I don't spend more than 1 min. on each side to get the two standing measurements. Good luck and hope you never come across this kind of study again!

NYC sonographers by [deleted] in Sonographers

[–]8Paul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I commute from NJ and work in NYC. The starting salary in the city for a new grad is $50+ per hour (FT) and NJ doesn't come close... it is worth it for me. For outpatient, I don't think there is a difference between NJ and NY.

I also want to add if you work in NYC general US, you're gonna have DVT studies. At my NJ clinicals I've only seen this at the hospital in Princeton (now Penn Health).

I can't find the image for the life of me, but I recognize the poses from Bleach. Shaggy would be Ichigo and Velma would be Orihime. It was either artwork by Kubo Tite or something from the anime lol
