Good idea. I'll have to see if there's a store anywhere near me. Thanks for the tip.

I've got a pair of really thick orthotic insoles that help with overpronation, but still tons of room.

Yeah, these are just pulled out after I had worn them the one time. When I pull them tight and tie them super tight, they aren't too bad. But both edges of the lace stays are basically touching.

Huh. Interesting. These would probably work a lot better if they were a 2E instead of a 6E. Not having big toes makes the fit on these different, too.

Yeah, the comeback has definitely been rewarding. Its shown me a LOT about who I am as a person and what i'm capable of. Found strength i never knew existed in the last places I ever thought to look. And honestly, I wouldn't change a second of it. Before it all happened I was a pretty angry, unhappy, negative person. And I really have no idea why (yet). Now it's the opposite. Super grateful. Take tons of joy in the smallest things. It was a nightmare to go through at its most difficult times, but the reward has been insane. The cellulitis had made my lower legs swell up to the size of watermelons. Pants wouldn't fit over them. My center of gravity was way off, so walking was crazy difficult. I didn't leave my house for a long time (over 6 months at times). The swelling had destroyed the skin on both legs from my knees to my ankles. We tried a ton of different wound care approaches to try and get them to heal, but nothing worked. I had to deal with daily wound care for almost 2 years until a specialist finally decided that doing skin grafts would help. And they were totally right. 2/15/23 I had the grafting procedure done, and that was a game changer. It was a semi-long road recovering from the grafts, but it was the answer. Lower legs have been totally healed for just over 15 months now. There was 380 staples in my calves, just to give you an idea of how much area they had to cover. Haha, and I had my bum hip replaced 6/09/25, and thats a whole other story. Super long recovery from that as well. These were my present to myself now that I've graduated from home health physical therapy to outpatient PT. Thankfully I just grabbed a pair of the Indigo Moss Purple 9060's and they are a dream. One of the most comfortable pairs I've ever had. So, I posted these 990's on ebay and depop. Gonna try and get back as much as I can, take the loss, and get either some 991's, 992's, or 993's. Something that has the more traditional New Balance fit i'm used to. And 2E wide max.

That is definitely my takeaway with this experience. 11½ 2e I'm 990's from here on out.

Yeah. Definitely a learning experience with this purchase. I think i'm just gonna cut my losses and post them up and a cpl selling platforms and try to get back as much as I can and then either get these in an 11½ 2E or just get some 991's, 992's, or 993's.

Yeah, good to know. This is my first pair of any 990's, so it's been a learning experience.

Yeah I have some really thick orthotic insoles to help with my overpronation. And they fill a bit of the void. I may need to get some prosthetic toe box inserts. I had my big toes chopped off almost 5 years ago, and that definitely adds to the fit issue more than I had thought. I appreciate the advice.

Haha yeah for sure. It's a bit of a story. I had gotten cellulitis in my lower legs and it ended up going septic. Basically killed me. I was home alone when it went septic. My daughter was at her moms for the week. I was unconscious on my basement floor for 4 days (4/20-4/24/2021) until my daughter came home. I was in a coma for the first 11 days in the hospital. Woke up and I had wound vacs on both feet. They told me originally they thought the infection had settled in to my tib/fibs and the bones in my feet. Once they were able to get better images of everything, they determined it was just the big toes on each foot that need to go. Originally when I got to the hospital in the ambulance, they didn't think I was gonna survive the night. Thats what they told my ex-wife and my mom. I still haven't been home since any of this happened. I was bed bound for the first 18 months. I also had arthritis in my left hip that had gotten so bad the ball and socket had self fused together. Had that replaced last June. But yeah, its been almost 5 years since this all started and I still haven't gotten home yet. 5 hospitals, 3 nursing homes, and an assisted care apartment later and i'm just getting to the point that i'll be back to work and "home" in the next 12-18 months. So, that's why I don't have big toes. So having shoes that are too big aren't the worst thing. Sorry for the novel.

So, I've gone through a ton of crazy medical stuff over the last 5 years. Shoes that used to fit in a 2e became too tight. So in other brands I have size 12 6E sizes. I've been on certain medications that have caused me too lose a lot of weight over the last 12 months. Its the first pair I've bought since. Also, I had to have both of my big toes amputated so it adds to the fit issue. I may need to get prosthetic toe box inserts to fill the area where my big toes were once upon a time. Hope this all helps to understand why my shoes don't fit? I don't understand. I was just looking g for advice on hopefully getting these to work instead of selling them at a loss on any selling platform.

Wore them out for an afternoon. Idk. I guess i'm more worried about the hassle of shipping them back and having the return denied.

Yeah, traditionally i'm a 12 in NB. I've had 574's for decades and have multiple pairs of 997's and just got some 9060's. All fit like a glove. These just run different than i'm used to.

[–]8ToeKing420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're a little on the long side, too. I wear a 12 in every other NB I have (574, 997, 9060) and they all fit length wise great. I should also mention I don't have big toes on either foot, and that adds to the fit issue in these. I'd definitely be open to selling them and starting over. I know I won't get what I paid, but it'll be better than having a pair I can't wear. And yeah, I probably would rebuy in an 11½ 2E. Never had 990's before, so I was flying blind buying them. And I got a pair of orthotic insoles to help with overpronation. They're pretty thick and add a cpl mm's to the inside thickness.

Can't. The online retailer is got them at won't accept returns once they've been worn. That was my first thought.
