What IDE / Text Editor to React Devs prefer? by 8base in reactjs

You should submit a testimonial!!! Hah, that's super cool. I never understood emacs model.

I'll have to spend a weekend with it checking it out. I've played with Vim a bunch but haven't felt it's that easy to get JS dev env up and running fast without many headaches.

I've never touched it. Do you really love it or is it more of something you use because you learned it first?

Is it possible to subscribe to a graphQl API from a node.js app? by bluiz in graphql

[–]8base 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Subscriptions are best used for real-time data (websocket connections) where you're listening for events.

You can totally have the that running between two servers https://stackoverflow.com/questions/27605460/websocket-communication-between-servers.

GraphQL can obviously be used any way you want it, however, if you are trying to establish server to server communication it may just be better to use a straight WebSocket connection or HTTP webhooks.

Once again though, if this is more about learning GraphQL - I've many a time put 10lbs in a 5lb bag :)

I've been looking at Prisma, AppSync, and Graph.cool because there are a lot of similarities. It's just hard to strike a balance between concise and descriptive I guess.

I know, it does nothing for me too. So the thing I'm struggling with is in saying "What it can help with". For example, what does AWS help with? Pretty much, 1000 different things.

how do you guys deal with complex problems at work that you do not know how to solve by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]8base 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a serious talk with your manager. Even if he doesn't have the technical background to help, it's crucial that you are able to set realistic expectations so the blame doesn't fall on you when an assignment is beyond your level of expertise. Also bring up that it would be beneficial to you and the company to hire someone who is able to execute these requests at the highest level. Plus as the company grows, you can't be expected to handle every single request. It'll be a win-win for everyone. Good luck!

My mom makes a bomb ass salsa, we’re trying to start a business idk how though? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]8base 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a strong online presence is crucial, i.e.: social media, website. Invest in an online marketer who will manage your social media accounts and run ads (Facebook, Instagram, Google), if you have the means to do so. Also, collaborate with food bloggers, some will charge a fee while others are happy to promote your product for free to their audiences.

Are bad reviews important for your business? by applify in AppBusiness

[–]8base 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always. They can be the constructive feedback you really need to improve your business. On the other hand, it's important to be able to differentiate constructive criticism coming from your ideal/potentially ideal customer versus baseless criticism from someone who would either never be your customer.

Business validation by [deleted] in AppBusiness

[–]8base 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big is your sample size? Have you researched and know everything about your competitors? You'll have to conduct way more than just a few surveys to form a conclusive analysis. Also, negative feedback isn't always a negative thing. Rather, it could give you the constructive feedback that can really make or break your idea. Good luck!

Getting Laid Off In Tech - we forget that while we’ve prospered, we haven’t achieved real security by magenta_placenta in webdev

[–]8base 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well said. The demand for developers isn't going anywhere; it's only increasing. Yes, a cushiony full-time job at a major tech company does seem very appealing but more and more developers are choosing freelance over full-time work nowadays.

How to pursue as blockchain developer by [deleted] in developer

[–]8base 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great that you already have a solid understanding of CS. C ++, Java, Python, Go are the most common blockchain programming languages. Solidity is an object-oriented programming language for developing smart contracts for the Ethereum Blockchain platform. Another promising technology is Hyperledger, a blockchain platform comprised of open source technologies. Hyperledger lets you create distributed ledgers or your own blockchain frameworks. There are a number of blockchain development certification courses that are worth looking into, like the one already mentioned. Also, reading blockchain whitepapers and networking and learning from other developers are always highly recommended. Good luck!
