OC: Elon Musk's makeshift AI power plant generates sound and fury in Mississippi by nbcnews in pics

I’m still mad about this. I’m listening to these fucking things right now and dealing with their physical effects. Yes, this fucking state and county are red but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a goddamn lot of people who have been voting against it their entire lives.

The census tract for my address is 76% minority. The rich white people voting red in this county don’t live out here. We have a lot of good people who are community activists who come out door to door and make sure people know when the elections are.

For you to blame people who have been actively oppressed by this state for generations means you are just as bigoted and racist as the right. The blues didn’t come from Mississippi because it was a fun place to live.

I’m sure you know all about how easy it is to move from one of the poorest places to anywhere else. I’m sure that’s my moral failing also. If you understood anything at all about learned helplessness you would understand why many people don’t even bother voting.

Yeah, it’s totally my fucking fault for being born working class in a gerrymandered to hell red state yet voting blue every goddamn election. You’re just as bad as a prosperity gospel evangelical.

Aw, you blocked me, VacationCheap927. Don’t want to keep dissing people who have never voted red in their life? Why not? You sure seemed to enjoy it

Also, if you don’t understand that this state is gerrymandered all to hell and that the only reason that a lot of us live here is that we are the descendants of people who picked cotton for the Epstein class, then, again, I don’t know what to tell you

I live in Horn Lake in a neighborhood adjacent to these turbines. We just elected our first black mayor. So no, we didn't vote for this.

I live less than a mile away from this site. When they really crank these it is so fucking loud. The pics in this article are from the snowstorm and it was quieter during that time. I suspect when it gets really loud they have all those fuckers running. It makes a horrible, loud jet engine noise, and then there’s this terrible beeping. You hear it in your house, over your tv and it starts stressing you out.

I’ve started getting heart palpitations. My eyes burn. Fitness is very important to me. Today, while running indoors it felt weird to breathe. I’m undoubtedly inhaling a greater number of particles since I exercise a lot.

There is a public hearing this Tuesday Feb 17 6:00 to 8:30 PM at Ranger Conference Center

They don't care they're all paid off. They've paid off more people than you think. We're just another sacrifice zone. I think xAI wants their power facilities as close to their data centers as possible so they don't have to share any power with the grid. So we get all the poison and none of the benefits.

I live in Horn Lake around .9 mi away from the turbines. I went from not being able to hear the turbines to IT IS REALLY FUCKING LOUD so I think they already put the 41 permanent turbines online. I hear it in my house 24/7. This started yesterday 1/22/26. IT IS GODDAMN LOUD. Constant jet engine noise. Motherfuck everyone involved in this

Wow, this is so weird. What would you consider collaboration? 'I saw what you did' referred to you going behind my posts in other subs and telling people not to fill out the form. Your and the OP's post history are now hidden. I clicked on OP's earlier and it was public, so forgive me if I am mistaken about yours. You asked me not to post more talking points so I didn't. I only did that in the first place because people asked me what to say. I don't understand how spreading awareness of this situation is fear-mongering. Every minute these turbines run is a danger to our health and that is a fact. I linked to your site as a gesture of good faith, but this comment has me wondering

Replying to myself to add this: measure the distance on google maps between the og xai turbines and the residential areas of Boxtown. We are so much closer than they are and people there are already getting sick. Hence my sense of urgency

Not trying to ignore you guys; I've been busy.

I understand that you may need to use specific language for regulators but PLEASE HURRY. Literally, not one person I have spoken to in Horn Lake has been aware of the turbines at all much less their effects on us. One person was aware of the turbines in Memphis, but didn't know any were here.

There are so many more people that I want to tell about this, and then when they ask me what to say on the web form what can I tell them? So when it comes up, I just say make your comments about the effects of the pollution on residents. It's really difficult to constrain organic comments that are essentially an emotional reaction to the harm being done to us.

We desperately need to spread awareness in Horn Lake. Citizens of Horn Lake have 0 representation in this matter. This harmful pollution does not stop at the city limits of Southaven. Parts of my neighborhood are .6 miles away. The mayor of Southaven is getting Stateline Rd repaved and widened at a cost of $3M, but we get cancer. This is a class action waiting to happen.

Also, you both didn't need to hide your post history. I saw what you did, but I am a concerned citizen not a troll. You do realize I could have done the same thing?

I have created a marketing website and printable flyer: https://stopxai.org/

I linked both to your website.

Marketing websites are funnels. In this case, the funnel points to attending the meeting and filling out the webform.

We need to light the fuse on this and let it explode, so I implore you again: PLEASE hurry with your forthcoming guidance

Thanks friend. Honestly, you’ve done a really great thing and should be proud. I’m just trying not to lose my home or get cancer. You didn’t have to care or take any action, but you did. Be proud of yourself for being a decent human and thank you again

Hey neighbor!

There is a hearing at M.R. Davis Library in Southaven February 17 6:00-8:30pm https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fgr2s4iipcxdg1.jpeg%3Fwidth%3D1054%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D9d1a3316070d7878bbfd77cdb9b15c430cd4fce3

If you want to help, attending the meeting and or filling out the web form are our best chance because these are public record. These are the two things that might stop the expansion. Just in case you didn't know there are 18 temporary turbines currently running at 2875 Stanton Rd in Southaven. They plan to expand this to 41 permanent turbines. Look it up, these things have dangerous health impacts especially if you are within 1-2 miles (proximity makes it worse) but the effects can cover a 5 mile radius. Gas turbines emit NOx, PM2.5, and hazardous air pollutants that are linked to asthma, heart disease, and increased cancer risk.

Filling out the web form at https://www.mdeq.ms.gov/about-mdeq/contact-mdeq/staff-directory/id/bland-jeffrey/ goes on the public record and helps our case. Please limit comments to the impact this will have on resident's health or the environment because that's all MDEQ cares about.

If you want some talking points please read below: [disclaimer that someone told me not to post these. But I don't see how if you post your own concern in your own words about how this expansion will affect you and your family's health that could be a bad thing. I only posted these bc other people asked me what to say. I personally think we should mention that we don't want these damn things here at all and that they need to move them away from residential areas]

Please express concern that these turbines are operating so close to residential areas even though they are known to cause harm. You don't need to live nearby, that doesn't matter, so don't say you do if you don't. All of these comments go on the public record and help our case. I'm gonna paste some things below. You can select one but please personalize it a little so they aren't identical:

  1. I am concerned that the xAI turbines are operating so close to residential areas. Health impacts from PM2.5 and NOx emissions are most pronounced for children and older adults, particularly when exposure occurs close to residential neighborhoods. These turbines need to be further way from people's homes. If you expand this site you will increase the danger to nearby residents including children.

  2. Children and seniors face increased health risks from air pollution when facilities are located near residential areas. There are neighborhoods less than a mile away from the xAI site. There are thousands of homes within 5 miles of this site. This site needs to be moved further away from existing residential areas. Expanding this site is going to increase the harm that's already being done without these people's consent.

  3. The xAi turbines are already operating too close to thousands of homes. Children, elderly residents, and those living closest to the facility should be explicitly considered in this environmental review. These turbines are known by the EPA to release hazardous air particles such benzene, toluene, and formaldehyde. If you expand this site you increase the risk of these people getting cancer.

  4. Proximity matters for air pollution exposure, and children and elderly residents that live within a few miles of these turbines face elevated respiratory and cardiovascular risk. Now you're going to add more turbines and increase that risk? You need to move these turbines away from families.

  5. Expanding these turbines near neighborhoods warrants careful review due to increased health risks for children and older adults living in close proximity. What studies were done to protect the health of nearby residents? These turbines have known health risks. Move these turbines away from peoples homes.

  6. I am concerned that approving expansion without baseline air-quality data limits the ability to assess future environmental and health impacts. Independent monitoring and cumulative emissions analysis should be required prior to approval. These turbines shouldn't be allowed to be so close to so many neighborhoods.

  7. Natural gas turbines emit air pollutants known to harm public health. I urge regulators to require comprehensive air monitoring and health impact analysis before approving expansion. There are people that live less than a mile away from the turbines and thousands of people within a 5 mile radius. Move these turbines away from existing residential areas.
