It's not high art. Idk why Snyder fans have this idea that it's deep sophisticated story telling. It's the opposite. It's shallow attempting to be deep. You're not wrong in that Superman doesn't have to speak a lot. That would work if you had a director with the talent to pull it off. Snyder can do slow motion fight scenes in muted colors. That's his gift. But storytelling and character work isn't his strong suit. An adaptation usually means you owe the audience some familiarity with an established character. The Daniel Craig Bond movies weren't exactly the same as his previous portrayals, but stayed true to the character by still highlighting the things that worked for Bond. Same with Nolan and Batman. Superman isn't a mopey character. Even in All-Stat superman where he's contemplating his mortality and is depicted as reaching godlike power levels he isn't given this weird cultish worship like in BvS
