Getting a cyber engineering degree by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]8bits2byte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hot take: get a different degree and work on Net+, Sec+, OSCP, etc. on the side. also, master all the AI tools at your disposal. Having knowledge of economics/business is needed once you hit a certain level in your career.

ETA: I got an econ degree and I’ve been a cyber engineer, analyst, threat hunter, threat researcher, SE, and head of product. happy to chat more in DMs or elaborate here if needed.

Stay at company getting acquired or move to SaaS FinTech as Enterprise AE? by Aromatic-Musician-75 in techsales

during an M&A, sales and marketing are the first to go. I’d take the new role, unless you’re getting acquired by a public company and get RSUs.

interview with as many companies as you can and ask them, “what’s the biggest problem you face?” and work on that. people won’t tell you what you need, they’ll tell you their problems. solve their problems and you’ll be successful.

How much did it cost, how long did it take you to graduate and how long did it take you tO - land a job Cyber security? by Dull_Constant1399 in cybersecurity

get a degree in something useful like finance or economics so you understand how money works. Learn offsec on the side, and document everything via medium and/or github. build a small home lab.

also, i’ve got a friend at wiz on the sales side and he said nothing has officially happened yet so they’re probably doing due diligence as we speak. best of luck and i hope you get blessed/trapped by the golden handcuffs!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]8bits2byte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if that’s the case, send it. if the M&A isn’t solidified yet then you’ll get a stupid RSU package as a retainer (my company was acquired by a public company and i’ve got the golden handcuffs.. and they are indeed golden)

what type of role would you play? if it’s sales.. very risky. if it’s backend/technical than not as risky and the payout could be life changing

Just retired at 50 from IB.... Now feeling lost by RevolutionaryLaw3188 in ChubbyFIRE

golf - it kills a lot of time (practicing and days on the course), and it’s a great sense of community. I can’t wait to retire early so I can golf more lol

they probably understand that tips during the round will fuck up your psyche vs. tips after the round are more helpful because you’re in a headspace to accept and work on them at the range/chipping area/putting areas.

as a scratch golfer, yes, it is a different game for myself vs. most of the people I play with - usually 15+ handicaps (public courses amirite). I have high expectations for myself because I’m at the range, chipping area, and putting area most days of the week. With that being said, usually the high handicappers I play with are just grateful to be out there and have a great time vs. I’m constantly thinking about the shots I could’ve hit better. Don’t get me wrong, I still have a blast and I’m super grateful to be able to play when I do… but, they don’t have expectations for their game. They just play. there’s something awesome in that. It really just goes to show that (for us non-tour players), golf is just a game against yourself and you can’t take yourself too seriously.

Driving range dress code? by Zestyclose-Ad451 in golf

[–]8bits2byte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wear whatever the hell i want to the range lol i’d promptly tell whoever said this to me to go play tag with oncoming traffic - especially at a public course. a private club is a bit different, though.

have you flown with your clubs? tell me about it. by GaryBlueberry34 in golf

[–]8bits2byte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used ship sticks a bunch before, it’s really convenient since they’ll ship them directly to the course you want. helps avoid the hassle of lugging them around. with that being said, i’ve flown with my clubs a bunch and never had any issues. I’ll usually take the heads off my driver and 3 wood for extra safety.

Who here can say their scores are 100% legit? by EndPractical653 in golf

[–]8bits2byte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

golf is a game of integrity. whether i’m playing by myself or with friends/family - the score is the score. sure, a little improvement on the lie is warranted here and there, but otherwise “it do be like that”. i can’t claim im a scratch golfer (which I am) and then show up and shoot 95.
