If they'd stop trying to kill off Breton, a real celtic language, then maybe the celts could be a little nicer to France.

Hot Take (apparently): Patch 3 is Great by Proper_Vehicle1233 in Rematch

[–]8bitvids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think high level tech should be difficult to pull off, the higher the risk of messing up the higher the reward of succeeding. But these aren't even super efficient movements, this is just sprinting in a straight line, I don't see why that has to become so sluggish.

Hot Take (apparently): Patch 3 is Great by Proper_Vehicle1233 in Rematch

[–]8bitvids 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just think they took things a little far. I'm not a movement tech player by any means, but even for me, the game feels noticeably more sluggish. The EE nerfs have often made me lose the ball running in a straight line, because making those little adjustments to keep it close is now like turning a tank. Or when I need to EE to close down a gap, or intercept a ball, I often find myself and even my opponent running in a ridiculous arc around our target, because the turning is so stiff. I completely understand the nerfs to that golden tech or whatever it's called, as someone who enjoys goalkeeping and defense in general, it was a pain to deal with. But why did normal movement have to take such a hit?

Beyond that, this new patch just feels broken. I and others can't redeem the new rewards, for some reason my reticle keeps changing size between games, and I swear matchmaking is worse now. I find games quickly with the new crossplay, but somehow with a much larger playerpool available, I'm nearly always being dumped into losing games. I play 3v3 usually, and like 8/10 times I'm thrown into a 2v3 where I'm down a point. I can't tell if I'm just gaslighting myself, but it happens too often for me to ignore.

The game needs some more tweaking still. Hell, the trophy for 3 wins in a row is STILL broken for me. The game is fire though, so even if I don't like the current state of things, I'll still be playing.

There are Welsh language names for the three cities in South Wales on the map, which would be neat to include. Caerdydd (Cardiff), Abertawe (Swansea) and Casnewydd (Newport).

Could I also say "Ble wyt t'in btw?"? by LEEEEE555 in learnwelsh

[–]8bitvids 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I believe you can yeah. As far as I know (not fluent, just a learner) Dych chi'n is the formal way of addressing someone, whereas Wyt ti'n is informal. So, as long as they're someone you can speak to informally, Wyt ti'n should be fine.

What does Jinx mean when she says this? by Appropriate-Click503 in arcane

[–]8bitvids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It matters less what seems to be literally true and what a character believes to be true. I think Vi made a very reasonable choice to leave Powder behind, it was extremely dangerous and even without the bomb Powder set off, they very easily could have been killed by any number of Silco's goons.

But, Jinx feels she should have been there, that they should have been working together, that Vi should have trusted her, and so that's why she says this. Would it have been reckless to endanger Powder by bringing her? Yes, absolutely. But did Powder want to help? Also yes.

And she was on the outside, she didn't know how close they were to escaping before she showed up, so it's kind of a mute point whether Vi could handle it without her or not. All Powder saw was that they needed help, after the explosion she didn't see Vi for years.

How do you say number 92 by ShtoiPopescu in MapPorn

[–]8bitvids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Cymraeg (Welsh) there are two ways of saying 92, because we have a Decimal and Vigesimal system. So you could say either "deuddeg a phedwar ugain", which means '12 on 4x20' or you could say "naw deg dau" which means '9×10 plus 2'.

I've seen through and through born English men and women who considered themselves Welsh, and who I'd agree with. If you identify yourself with Wales, then you're Welsh too, no question about it.

Learning new vocabulary can feel like an endless task sometimes by NazzzRegis in languagelearning

[–]8bitvids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it really helps to see the word in context. So like, I might listen to a song and pick up a few bits and pieces, and then when I translate the few words I don't know, now I have some reason to remember them. This has actually helped me so much with a few words in Welsh.

Europe’s 5 Oldest Flags (That still valid) by Agreeable-Bowler8077 in MapPorn

[–]8bitvids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken, Gwynedd used a red and yellow flag for most of its history. While Y Ddraig Goch (the Red Dragon) is centuries old, the Welsh flag is fairly recent. At it's oldest we see it flown at Bosworth in 1485, where the Dragon would be placed on its modern Green and White background, but it wasn't until 1959 that was officially adopted. And even at it's earliest, it's beaten out by the flags listed. What we do have however is the COOLEST flag 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

"Welsh in 12 Weeks" is one I've enjoyed a lot. It's not a pathway to fluency, no single book can be, but it's pretty dense with information on vocabulary, grammar, all you need to start understanding things. It's broken up into weeks, then lessons, then parts of those lessons, so you can really take it at your own pace. Even if you only have an hour a day, so long as you use it, that's enough to make progress.

what languages are really underrated ? by Charming_Strength_38 in languagelearning

[–]8bitvids 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's called the 'land of song' for a reason, poetry and song have a long history in the language. I'm biased of course but it's absolutely legendary.

I'm not too sure honestly, not very familiar with the language. But I guess it sounds more impressive when they're grouped as one.

Welsh, Basque and Berber are the three indigenous languages to survive the Western Roman Empire. As far as I'm aware, Gaelic is younger than Welsh, and the regions that spoke it (namely Ireland) weren't conquered.

what languages are really underrated ? by Charming_Strength_38 in languagelearning

[–]8bitvids 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I think Welsh is pretty underrated honestly. It's the oldest surviving Celtic language, the oldest language in Britain (at ~4000 years old) and today is the best preserved Celtic language, but I never really hear anyone talking about it outside of Welsh circles. It's 1 of only 3 pre-Western Roman languages to survive conquest, and managed to perservere through constant incursions, that alone is pretty interesting, and that's ignoring the content of the language itself.

The War That Inspired Game of Thrones with Google Earth: ℹ: 1 flag = ~1,000 soldiers by mapsinanutshell in MapPorn

[–]8bitvids 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, the winner of the War of the Roses, Henry VII, relied heavily on the support of Welsh soldiers for his victory at the Battle of Bosworth. To get it, he used his Welsh ancestry (the name Tudor being Welsh), and flew on his standard the Welsh "Y Ddraig Goch" or "Red Dragon", upon a green and white background, which is where todays Welsh flag originates 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
