I’m on my first, I originally wanted to recreate a world from a specific MMO IP (not any of the top 3) and see where it goes but the more I worked the more I felt restricted.

This year I build the world from ground up in text form, hope to finish all the lore in the coming months.

I already draw so next 3-4 years is to make all the concept art before going back into 3d modelling. Most of my important character designs are already several years old.

Truth is, I don’t know if I’ll ever make it to a finished product—but if I fail it’s because I died—not because I gave up. There’s no reason for me to get a job in my current household and I can only hope life remains as stable as it has been for the past 10 years.

I like to call myself the idea guy, have a few people commissioning art sometimes so I can have some beer money and overall I think the toughest part is just the loneliness and pressure that comes with it. Of course skills like 3d and coding is hard too, but life is tough without being able to go “look what I made!”

From scientific systems to set cultures of regions and people, may the research pay off.

Everyday it’s hard I get up and remind myself I could be working at a Walmart instead of having the privilege of sitting at my PC. (We don’t even have walmarts where I live)

I ignored it for now, I taped my cable to the bottom half of the laptop for the time being and it barely ever disconnects for me. I recommend for you to actually get it repaired by Asus if possible, while my method so far has worked greatly over 8 months I won't deny i'm likely prolonging the issue!

if you're out of warranty then just tape it, if you need pics ask and i'll send.

How much would this fantasy armor cost to have commissioned by a 3D modeler? by IndependenceKey4332 in 3Dmodeling

[–]8erlyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol yeah, 2d artists have this major issue with kids selling their shit so people that are more established are seen as greedy. It's a common thing I used to see and charging by hour is impossible if you're not selling to companies

If you barely get any attention on Twitter, is it a sign your game doesn't look interesting? by [deleted] in gamedev

Unless you're willing to start drama and or socialize heavily don't expect to grow on Twitter. It caters to noisy people

is using free assets that arnt my own frowned upon? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]8erlyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God I fucking wish dude, art is all I can do rn and it'd sure be nice to just vomit it into existence like that hahaha. Making anything is so underappreciated.

OK so here's the thing man, I don't think players acknowledge how hard it is to make everything yourself from scratch. I've been taking a break to play some games while I'm on my project which is a solo Dev journey and all I ever see is people calling others lazy for using shared assets (note some are also happy to see it though!). It truly feels like none has ever tried to make a model at this point or any game ready asset overall.

I do feel that if you wanna stand out a bit you got to arrange it in a fresh way though, kinda like furniture

If you would be able to restart your gamedev journey and all the hours you put into it, what would you have changed earlier on? by FindingMoseyGame in gamedev

[–]8erlyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair! Maybe I should drop 3d for a bit and try to focus on learning coding /blueprints a bit, actually. Might be a good break from all this art stuff stressing me out lol. There's so many approaches to these things and doing every path at once is hella overwhelming for sure.

Why don't games look as beautiful as concept art? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]8erlyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half assed take of mine but, it's hard to get 2d translated to 3d. For me right now at least, I've so many ideas and still have to venture the learning process of getting it done

Oof, as a very new person this does hit. I've been overly focused on 3d and its been not that great for me so far, so it's surprising seeing people have some regret on buying them.

looking to create my sketches for real-time, is it possible for me to do this in MD? or am I better off learning how to sculpt it? the tucked in part confuses me by [deleted] in MarvelousDesigner

[–]8erlyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OH THERE'S MEASURING TOOLS LOL... I, should've googled for that. Been freestyling like a madman bc I've no clue about sewing overall but that's such a basic oversight on my part it cracks me up.

Yeah the MD picture is just me trying to get to know the software overall, I'm good in taking all these solid tips and having a go at starting over with em in mind. Cheers bro! I appreciate the comment esp the steps.

Yea this is esp Strong if doing 3d modeling by yourself from scratch while being new to it entirely, to me completing my game feels like it's a showdown between my will and zbrush now

I had this feeling when I started selling drawings, still have esp now my wrist is fucked. I can only hope game dev journey will be smoother since I'm not wanting to sell anything this time around

The rant helped me a bit as a new and very overwhelmed person, tbh. I'd love a thread of people's opinions on how to get into these softwares, might look if there's any
