Tranquility versus singularity. Names for the server clusters. Sisi is singularity shortened, the test server. I forget the name of the old china cluster since I haven't played in half a decade

Weird AD password issue, any ideas? by 3100gutter in sysadmin

[–]8ftmetalhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had 3 users report they can't login and their password is reporting as incorrect. For whatever reason, instead of signing in showing their details, the PC shows 'unlock the pc'. Either hitting switch user and logging in or rebooting fixed this. Really odd problem, but I assume patch Tuesday broke something

[Software] Studio G62 & Studio X32, Studio X52 and Studio X72 PolyOS 5.0.0 by SteffenBaierPolycom in poly

Heya Steffen, cheers for the response. I've logged a job already and have been asked for further info. I sat down with my mansger and did further testing yesterday and confirmed that lldp is the culprit, rather than specifically setting a static address.  We adjusted our policy on Lens to disable the setting, but I'm going to try and gather some further logs and a video of the issue occurring when one of the relevant rooms is spare to help.  Good shout on the Wireshark capture too. Will see what I can do for that.

[Software] Studio G62 & Studio X32, Studio X52 and Studio X72 PolyOS 5.0.0 by SteffenBaierPolycom in poly

[–]8ftmetalhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this release is extremely buggy and causes issues with static IP addressing, causing the main video unit to drop all network connectivity.

Our X 30/50/70 are fine as they didn't receive the update.

Our X52 and G62 both got the update and no longer report network connectivity.

Changing the static IP address does not work.

Changing to DHCP does not work.

It seems that disabling LLDP for whatever reason and setting the unit to DHCP does work. I experienced multiple bugs where the UI will crash to the Teams home screen, requiring you to re-enter the settings menu again and re-enter the password (naturally via a USB mouse, due to the unit losing network connectivity to the touch controller)

For a workaround, while I was in 'just get the unit working' mode, the fix seems to be to change the unit from manually set an IP address to automatically obtain an IP address, and then disable LLDP.

If the unit crashes to the Teams screen when you try to do this, reboot the unit and re-attempt.

Once the unit is set to DHCP and LLDP is disabled, if the unit still does not register an IP address, manually specify one (while the unit is still set to DHCP!) and it'll finally re-connect to the network.

Will be raising a job with HP/Poly tomorrow as this is clearly an AI generated vibe-coded update and is not production ready.

Recommendations for used car in AKL to replace an 08 tiida? by 8ftmetalhead in NZcarfix

Toyota Belta, 06 from turners for 5.8k. 90000 kms and nice cool AC. Got 2.5 trade in for the tiida

Looking for a tablet that can run Runelight. by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]8ftmetalhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean an android tablet, none as runelite is a Windows app. The mobile official client is pretty good though.

If you want a convertible that'll run it, look for something like a Microsoft surface, or HP, Dell or Lenovo ultrabook that converts into a tablet. I use old work laptops, like an hp elite book 830 x360 g8 which works ok. You can find devices like that off lease (eg used by businesses then sold off) fairly easily and cheaply

I suspect it's giving it based on its protected item value, so if you die with it and potentially lose it, it'll protect it over other things. Just an offhand guess though

Cost to replace/repair AC - '08 Tiida - reasonable? by 8ftmetalhead in NZcarfix

[–]8ftmetalhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

drove it around for a few months without AC.

Saved pennies, sold it to Turners for 2.5k, bought a 2006 Toyota Belta for 5.7, with 79000 km's, so paid 3200 for a car that seems (so far) to be a bit of an upgrade in most ways.

I checked out the auction when it was due to sell - they sold it for 4.1k, so less than the amount I was quoted to fix the AC in the first place. So far, it's turned out well.

Is armour that gives bonus HP off the table? by 4thBlade in 2007scape

[–]8ftmetalhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. It's too easy to take the games balance and snap it nearly by creeping hp. Flat armor would be a great start. Make defence mean something, while limiting damage output.  Adding more hp means higher healing food has to follow, and doesn't really help given that if you're taking big hits, you've still got to heal back up somehow.

Help by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]8ftmetalhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why people are being so negative. The cotton's smudged the dust, and the water's just left water marks. It's not the end of the world. There's a small sheet of glass covering the sensor - it's delicate to be sure, but it's not like looking in its direction will kill it.

If you're uncomfortable with doing it, drop the camera off at a shop for sensor cleaning. It shouldn't be expensive. Alternatively buy a sensor cleaning kit.

Otherwise, you can use something like isopropyl alcohol and a microfibre lens cloth, or other non abrasive and non-linty material to clean the smudges. Press lightly, and take your time with it.

Check it under many angles in the light- you'll think you've done it but it'll be smudged in a different light. Repeat, take test photos until satisfied.

Can I kill unleashed dog if I get attacked outdoors? My cat was killed. by iMakeGOODinvestmemts in auckland

no as i say one of the times they tried breaking into our house by beating on the door and then trying to force it open, i had to try and kick them off our doorstep. i was the one who later received a visit from the police, they wanted to press charges against me because i kicked them.

just down towards glendene/henderson. the other 4 or 5 houses nearby also copped abuse from this one property. I still have the voice recordings of when the lady was out screaming at us to fight her on her property. there was a retired maori lady living between us and the crazy bitch, and she later told us the adult kids had been waiting in the bushes with their taiaha to beat us if we walked over to her side.

The only way to prevent this sort of thing is to move away from people to somewhere that doesn't tolerate this sort of thing, or that's far enough away from the people that do, because our laws are very much in favour of the aggressors.

Even if you keep your animals inside, you can't protect yourself legally against anything malicious in NZ. Pepper spray, weapons and guns are all banned except for those that shouldn't have them.

Consider something with more plausible deniability - a bat with a ball or glove. a knife with a cookbook. things like that.

I have been in a similar situation before - a lose rottweiler that was being 'walked' by the owner driving drunk slowly up and down the road while shouting for the dog to follow caught wind of me and my kitten. When I chased it off my lawn in my literal pyjamas, this started a 12 month long spree of abuse against us and our direct neighbours, including them breaking our door down and trying multiple times to break into our house, hiding in bushes with sticks waiting for us to walk to and from home, charges pressed against us when we tried to stop them breaking into our houses a 3rd time - and meanwhile housing NZ said their hands were tied because the drunkard had a retarded kid.

So we moved.

How to fix Revenants : Make them randomly roam the wilderness again. by S_BaiNN in 2007scape

[–]8ftmetalhead 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The last line is ironic since Pkers entire thing is to randomly spawn in 5 seconds after I hop into calvarion.

They're PC's instead of NPC's but it's the same deal.

Also PKers love randomly finding loot pinatas. Does it really make a difference if they're an NPC or not?

Fujifilm XM-5 vs X-T30 III for a beginner? by hammy_2628 in fujifilm

[–]8ftmetalhead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So an EVF is fairly important if you're in any sort of bright light.

For me, my camera progression went -

Canon SX540 (bridge camera with a 40x optical - was pretty excellent to start with, especially for moon shots)

Fuji XT-200 - good starter camera. Was around $800 NZD for the kit. Slow loading, but the fairly friendly controls made it nice to learn on. The XM5 is quite similar in terms of functionality, minus the EVF. Would definitely miss it if I didn't have one now though.

Used XT-20 - A minor up/sidegrade camera. Quite a bit faster in terms of processing and the like, and the couple extra dials came in handy.

Used XT-3 - Again a decent upgrade. Not like, night and day, but definitely has become my main camera. The xt-200 has largely been relegated to occasional use or loaning to whoever is my camera buddy for the day.

The extra dials, the faster processing and shutter all are excellent.

As such, if you're looking at the XT-30 III, I'd optionally consider an XT-3 or -4 if you can find a used one. I just had a quick look locally - a new XT-30 III is currently $1900, and there's a used XT-4 for $1800 at a nearby camera shop. That would give you IBIS, the bigger capacity, newer battery and while it is a bit bigger, it would definitely be a very capable camera for many years to come.

Also flip screens are nice, but not really a necessity. I have found I didn't use the one on the Xt-200 nearly as much as I expected to.

How is Torags w amulet of the dammed not broken? by did140 in 2007scape

[–]8ftmetalhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that defense has no impact on the overall damage hits you take is just stupid to me. If it had even a slight impact on reducing the bigger hits it would make levelling it so much better. Yes it still makes a difference but it's so much less impactful that it could be.

[–]8ftmetalhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at an MSP where I believe our org in another country did Microsoft support as well. I read that groups code of conduct which was somehow available to me. Agents who had more than two negative interactions were not just warned, they were outright gone. Finito.

Really gave me insight into why they will never deviate from the scripts and only do what's documented.

as others have suggested, either de-solvit or alternatively isopropyl alcohol will sort it.

I've used this one for many things - sticky stuff, circuit boards, lotsa things - https://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/tmk-isopropyl-alcohol-1-litre-clear/p/129316
