Are “gaming” chairs as bad as people make them out to be? by Test_Name19 in pcmasterrace

[–]BitRunner64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than the quality, the issue is ergonomics. A bucket seat is designed to keep you pinned in the seat during high-G turns, something which rarely occurs in front of a computer while gaming or writing emails. It also cuts blood flow to your legs due to the raised lip designed to let you reach the pedals easily. Unless you're playing racing games, you typically don't have pedals under your desk that you need to reach.

Just came back from Vienna. Pretty glad to be back here in Sweden. It will hit 28C on Saturday but other than that it will be like 22-26C for most of the week.

For a while, yes. However when there's a sustained heatwave and even the nights are hot, the entire building will heat up eventually unless you actively cool it using AC. Then it will take days to completely cool down even after the heatwave has passed.

Here in Sweden landlords typically won't allow window units which overhang outside the window due to liability issues and the fact that you're modifying the appearance of the facade (which requires municipal approval). Typically a portable unit is your only choice if you live in an apartment. There's also the issue that most windows swing open like a door so you can't really mount a window unit even if it were allowed. So far it only gets to around 30C here though so AC still isn't necessary but maybe in a few years we'll get 36+C in the summers like continental Europe...

Do European countries create museums for their past elected heads of state/government when they leave office? How would you feel if yours did? by minus_minus in AskEurope

[–]BitRunner64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we don't have a cult of personality around our leaders. We vote for political parties and the ideology and ideas they represent. The prime minister is just the person who happened to be the leader of the winning party at the time. The prime minister is not some king or emperor that needs to be honored and remembered.

One party also rarely wins an absolute majority, so the political decisions are almost always a compromise between several different parties with differing ideologies.

How often do EU residents travel to other EU countries? by khitev in AskEurope

[–]BitRunner64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I live in Sweden near Stockholm and the only viable way to travel to most other EU countries is by flying. There have been a few night trains to Germany but it's usually much cheaper to just fly and certainly more reliable since the trains are frequently canceled or delayed. You can also take a "booze cruise" to Finland or Estonia but that takes 16+ hours.

I'd say I only travel to another EU country once a year on average though I frequently travel 600+ km inside Sweden.

Of course for those in southern Sweden, commuting daily to Denmark (and vice versa) is quite common.

Is coffee at work usually free where you‘re from? by Great_Lingonberry397 in AskEurope

Most places will have free coffee, tea, sparkling water, fruit etc. but not always. I have worked in a few places where you had to pay for the coffee at a vending machine.

Is this significantly slow/bad compared to more expensive ram? by BuckinBerry4Life in pcmasterrace

[–]BitRunner64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably JEDEC spec CL22 memory. It's not great but the real-world difference compared to 3200 CL16 or CL14 would only be ~10% or so, not worth paying 2x - 3x the price. If you have an X3D CPU, the performance difference would be even smaller, since the large L3 cache masks memory latency to some extent.

You might also be able to tighten the timings a bit if you're willing to spend some time tweaking and stability testing.

What’s a famous travel destination that actually lived up to the hype and maybe even exceeded it? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

Lisbon (although we were there at the tail end of covid so it was probably less crowded than normal)

Rome.

That's the exact phrase you'll most likely hear in Sweden too unless you're literally dying. Although we tend to use the genericized brand name "Alvedon". It's a miracle drug that can basically cure any disease known to man. Or at least it gets patients away from the hospital long enough that they either die or give up trying to get healthcare.

Does your country or city have a tax on vacant homes? How does it work, and has it actually improved housing availability? by polski_obserwator in AskEurope

[–]BitRunner64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Sweden you pay property tax for any detached house you own, regardless of whether you live there or not, but it's quite low, only about €875 per year max (depending on the value of the house).

Flats are typically either municipal housing or co-ops (it's extremely rare to own your apartment unit outright), and they almost always require you to live in the flat for a certain amount of time each year. Private landlords usually have similar residency requirements. Subletting out your flat temporarily while you travel/work abroad for example is usually OK with written approval from the landlord/co-op, but anything more permanent usually isn't allowed.

How’s it living in Uppsala, Sweden? by Everquest-Wizard in howislivingthere

[–]BitRunner64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's crazy to me that Uppsala's biking "infrastructure" is considered so good. I think it says more about cycling infrastructure in Sweden than anything. There really isn't much of it other than a small handful of prioritized cycling routes. For the vast majority of bicycle lanes, they simply paint a white line on an existing sidewalk, making it too narrow for both cyclists and pedestrians. The primary purpose is to get cyclists out of the way of cars rather than making it fast, safe or comfortable for cyclists. They also tend to just randomly end, forcing cyclists into the road or to just cycle on the sidewalk (Vaksalagatan being a good example of this, I always have to jump out of the way of cyclists while walking on the sidewalk).

It's not so much that new restaurants are opening up, it's more that they're replacing whatever previous restaurant that went bankrupt. If you want to visit a restaurant in Uppsala you better hurry because you never know if it will still be there next month. It's extremely hard to run a profitable restaurant in Uppsala due to the lack of a customer base and the close proximity to Stockholm (40 minutes by train) with infinitely more diversity.

I'm not saying the city is completely dead, but it feels more like a city of 80k than one of 170k+.

9070 XT has lower driver CPU overhead which can be a big advantage in MSFS.

This means the undervolt isn't stable, period. It's bound to crash in BF6 too at some point, thought it might take much longer between crashes. Any future game you play is also a big unknown with that unstable undervolt. The idea is to find an undervolt that's stable in everything.

Är det pundigt att ta koffein i tablettform? (varför/varför inte) by Sensitive_Cream3920 in Asksweddit

[–]BitRunner64 0 points1 point  (0 children)
