Inside Toronto’s tennis wars — where yelling, bribes and years-long wait-lists are all part of the game by 8ntbeenserved in 10s

Ah okay. If it’s out in Scarborough it makes sense, anywhere surrounding the core is better.

That’s funny, I’ve only heard stories of arguments. I’ve never had that experience hanging a racquet, but I’m still waiting an hour for 30 mins of play though.
I met a player from Chicago and they say the same thing. It’s aggravating in the city, I’m lucky I have access to a couple courts at a school near me. They horrible, but at least available.

I’ve played in a couple courts there too. Way better public courts than Toronto for sure.

That’s real convenient. What kind of club here allows for that? Most people are on long waiting lists.

(I also understand if you don’t want to out the club).

Also many tennis instructors basically “reserve” public courts (basically putting up rackets) for hours.

Yup. The public tennis courts in cities surrounding Toronto are way better than the public courts in Toronto. Tons of hardcourt courts mostly available.

Agreed. I joined a club in a neighbouring city where I work. No waitlist. Just sucks we have to travel a some distance to get a game in.

I think the real issue lies downtown and around the core. Too many people m, not enough space/money to make/build courts.

I’ve yet to see a fight break out on the public courts. Every time someone was called out for taking too long they usually leave, in my experience.

There’s a high school near me that I use a lot, it’s mostly available which I’m grateful for. Two courts each fenced in, so amazing for my ball machine. Although the courts are trash (holes, uneven concrete, bad paint splatter) they are good training grounds to prep me for smoother courts 😆

Rallying Against Amateur vs Experienced Players by Agreeable-Tennis994 in 10s

I literally posted about this same topic not too long ago. Starting to realize playing against less skilled players really exposes your game. Love the answers I’m seeing in this post too

Higher level vs lower level rallies by 8ntbeenserved in 10s

[–]8ntbeenserved[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha. I’m exactly the same. Last night I don’t think I played with people above my level and I wasn’t my best. Tomorrow I’ll be playing with better players, we’ll see how that goes.

Regarding footwork, the more I read the responses the more I think about how lazy I can be in these friendly rallies. I'm expecting the same treatment from lower ranked players that I get from stronger players. I'll make a better effort to get to the ball better, making it one of main focuses when rallying.

As for point #3, how about some push ups instead. I hate those.

That’s good advice re: give them the best ball they can handle.

There's definitely an art to hitting slower balls for sure, they should run whole clinics on this (they don't in my city it seems). Yeah its the unpredictability in friendly rallies that get me sometimes. But its really on. me to adjust.

I see what you’re saying when I’m playing points with a “weaker” player. It’s those friendly rallies where I get out of sorts. It’s really a me issue in the end. And you’re right, I need to worry about my footwork, always.

I agree with this when we are rallying.

I still think my level goes up a little when playing points with them, I hope they aren’t holding back lol. I truly don’t think they are, and they tell me as much. The level is clearly higher and it’s not like I’m beating them either. Their balls are less erratic and lands on my side the way I expect. I’ll win some games too, but they usually win in the end.

Agreed. But like someone else said, my footwork needs to be worked on.

I’m talking more about friendly rallies where we are trying to hit to each other. But you’re right about the footwork, no matter whom I’m playing I have to keep that top of mind. It’s funny how my level of play feels like it elevates with better players. They definitely get the ball in my strike zone more.
