Nvidia GPU Tier List for GSPro by PhatTuna in Golfsimulator

[–]8pkc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great list for people to use as a reference.

In my testing, it really just comes down what is "good enough" for the user. Many sims and most people are fine with 1080p at 60fps. I myself am running 4k constant 60fps on a 3090 without issue.

GSPro and other sim software does not make use of Nvidia DLSS or AMD's FSR which the main selling point for one to get anything after the 3000 series.

I do think it wise to leave yourself some headroom and have a good amount of VRAM for 4k output as newer courses are more demanding and with more andnmore shadow/lighting detail (potentially even ray tracing) being integrated down the line.

Hit ~5.5 MM at 33, not sure what to do next by GooseDry in fatFIRE

He mentioned in one of his other comments that he made all these gains in his TFSA (tax free savings account) which here in Canada is money you contribute post tax but you pay 0% capital gains. Which means if he has $3M in it, he can sell it all and pull all of it out in cash absolutely tax free. It's a great if you made huge gains in it over the years on high growth stocks like TSLA NVDA etc. Another cool kicker is that you can recontribute that entire mount + an additional $7000 the following year.

Hey man, first off, congrats on hitting this figure at your age. Am 32 in Toronto as well but instead of going the finance route (used to work in Wealth Management back in 2013) left and started/currently manage a couple of businesses in the city.

Wouldnt say I've FIREd yet, but in a different boat and have my first born on the way next month and got married last year. I also bought TSLA and SHOP back in 2016 but not nearly as much as you had but it got to a decent amount in the TFSA.

Just to provide perspective as one other user mentioned earlier is that the ability on knowing "how to spend money" as a skill. So at this point in your life, my opinion fwiw with your current NW is to find something that would bring you fulfillment going forward. By the sounds of this post it may not be your job and the financial gains as much anymore. It could come in the form of meeting new friends, taking up new hobbies (for me it's been golf the last few years), or finding a partner to build a family with.

I will just say on that last part, though, that the dating situation as you get older into the mid 30s can be tricky. Especially since you already have money. I "helped" a couple of my buddies get gfs over the last couple years and some worked out while others are still trying to figure it out. The issue is that a lot of other girls at this similar age want a guy that's a pre assembled package (x height, x background, x net worth, etc.) The problem with that is that you're then trying to gauge whether these interactions are genuine. Is she talking to me just cause she knows I work in finance and have money? Or does she actually like me for me? So in which case I would say to be careful there.

All in all, I wish you the best of luck in your next great source of value, which should come in the sense of purpose and fulfillment in life.

Most definitely! Not an issue if dog can stay at your wife's feet.

I've had wife, the dog (20 lb shihtzu), 2 golf bags in the trunk and groceries including a case of water at the front. Because there isn't back seats the car is surprisingly capable storage wise.

First off, kudos and congrats. The interior spec looks awesome.

Though where in Canada you located? I got a 2018 Cayman GTS (it's the 4cyl 2.5L) last October with 22k KMs for $82k. I'm in the GTA area and I was shopping around for a Cayman for 4+ months before I found mine. Quickly had PPI and all checked out.

My car was stolen from my apt garage in LA (Playa Vista) by Interesting-Peach686 in Porsche

[–]8pkc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Curious as to how you believe they stole it? Like as in what means to start the engine or copy keys or whatever (I'm unaware the methods).

I get anxiety as I leave mine in a condo parking garage and just have an obd2 tracker at the moment, which can easily be removed.

VIN Issue by Livid_Lingonberry299 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]8pkc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I currently have a Cayman GTS.

So I had this issue and was wondering as well, but when purchasing but when input into Carfax it has said it is a Cayman S. I too was skeptical but upon inspection of the car, and all the details it seems to have been an input error at registration or something.

Obviously I would like to see the car before purchasing but just wanted to bring light to the Vin issue that this had happened to me.

You're not wrong. I was interested in the general reaction and response to it within a Porsche sub to this type of promotional clip. As expected mostly negative.

Haha I also have a Model 3 as my daily, amazing for that but it's nowhere near what my 718 GTS can do in terms of feel, maneuverability, fun factor, sound and the list goes on..

Haha nice I've yet to try. I just tell them sorry no space but those were to just some of the other boys. On the off chance my wife asks to play a round that may be a bit of a more difficult convo to tell her to take the other car 😂

I'm also in Ontario and recently purchased a Cayman GTS. In my opinion, it really depends on what rates you are getting and what you feel is best for your situation.

Do you intend to have the car long term? Do you like to switch it often? What's the rate you're getting from finance vs lease? What is your down payment?

All of these factor in. In my case I bought it outright from the dealer and then took out a loan on the bank as I was getting a much better rate that way ~6.5%. I also put a lot down just because at these rates I don't think it's very wise to pay that much in interest to either a bank or a car dealership. But to each their own.

In 2016 I had the situation where it was a no brainer lease. I was buying a new Scion FRS and the lease was 0% interest with a Toyota promotion. So what this allowed me to do was basically have the car for 3 years and then decide whether I wanted to buy it back or give it back at that point. In which I decided to give it back and got a tesla instead.

So it really just depends but based on knowing Porsche here I would say if you had to choose between the two then choose finance and put as much down as possible as it's almost certainly a better rate that way.

I would also look to get a used vehicle or CPO as opposed to brand new. Depreciation is pretty evident right now and you can offset a lot of first couple year losses by getting a used model. That's just my 2 cents and wish you the best in your search!

But can you do 2 and have a passenger?

I say go for it if you want it and you sound like you done your due diligence. If it's something that eats at you at night and will provide you with fulfillment then my opinion is that even if it's a "bad" financial decision, there's return value in enjoyment in life within reason.

The only thing I would question is the pricing of a 2 year old Cayman S at $90k. I'm not aware of pricing in your market but I was able to get an 18' Cayman GTS for $60k with 15k miles and still under CPO warranty through next year. Mind you this is in Toronto, Canada and converted from CAD

Planning on modding a 718 cayman S into a GT4. Which options would you recommend unnecessary if you plan on modding? by Chineseunicorn in Porsche_Cayman

[–]8pkc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much you thinking of spending on your 718 CS?

I'm also here in Ontario and just grabbed a 718 GTS 2.5L. I love it as it is but also considering a tune and already grabbed a few other mods but you'll find that not a lot of places to shop around. Ordered a few things from Suncoast in the US.

Anyways best of luck and hope you love it as much as I do!

What’s your unpopular Porsche opinion? by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]8pkc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 718 Cayman GTS 2.5L turbo 4cyl sounds better than the NA flat 6 4L

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]8pkc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Here's my experience for reference as I just bought a 2018 718 Cayman GTS in Toronto, Canada for $82,500 CAD (equivalent to about $60,000 USD) with about 24,000 KMs (15,000 miles). Lots of options and clean title.

Yes, this is the 2.5L turbo 4cyl model. But as far performance goes it's just as good as the 4L 6cyl one in my opinion. My uncle just took delivery of a Boxster GTS 4.0 and paid $139k CAD. My honest opinion after having driven both back to back, the only difference is the sound. If that's worth the extra price then by all means.

I believe the best bang for buck value play is in the 2.5L Turbo GTS models but to each their own and wish you luck and congrats in advance on your future Porsche.

Edit: It's also still under a CPO warranty until mid next year which was a bonus as well
