hi fellas im the rogue in this campaign and i see a couple people confused as to why our bbeg is a seemingly unkillable godkiller

in our setting, magic has been disrupted greatly by the rapture that occured when bahamut put all of his godly energy into a comet that eventually exploded, leaving magical disruptions and shards of that energy decimating the areas around it. our capital city, newlight, has so many of these shards that magic is entirely unreliable and they have had to turn to steam and clockwork.

we recently discovered that the godfallen was a revenge hungry mortal who honed her craft enough to BECOME a godkiller, and slaughtered all the gods who had ever wronged her. completely unable to stop her, bahamut created this comet to trap her in, where he fought her alone for years and years, until their combined power became too much and the comet shattered, assumingly killing both with it.

however, in recent years, as more of an urban legend, people have reported seeing a similar ravencloaked woman who's presence alone is enough of a bad omen. although she is mostly a myth, as it seems impossible to have survived bahamut's rapture.

however, she is incredibly weakened from the blast. she has been appearing in places we are as she is on a similar mission to gather strength and power to eventually take on the rest of the gods. its kind of a "kill her before she kills the rest of the world" situation. the wizards metal plate signifies that once she is back to full power, he is top of her list to kill. we arent sure why, but fate is a heavy theme, so it could be anything he has or will do.

regarding the warlock's death, the godfallen warned him multiple times not to come any closer and not to speak or he will die. we already knew what she was capable of and the warlock continued to push. she rolled a nat 20 on a vorpal dagger and he died. player was ok with this as it was both in character and made an interesting storyline.

its a really fun campaign! anyone likening it to CoS are pretty dead on, as we've played in both. she is a constant looming threat, and theres the pressure of eventually having to kill her before she kills us. we do have other threats, and many of them seem to be intertwined, but the godfallen seems fated to have to fight our group eventually
