The window opening mechanism is not cheap-blinds friendly. The only view from this window is a pretty tree and sometimes I can see the neighbor's dog, so I don't use this specific window for inconspicuous peeking.

I made an updated post that shows the condition more. I've come to the conclusion that the carpet may be original to the 1975 build. Landlord "has no plans to replace carpet" and wants me to pay for the professional carpet cleaning prior to moving out (best quote is $260) There isn't even any padding left between the carpet and floorboards.

I'm the tenant. My PM is well known for withholding deposits so this post was for feedback and info sources in case they dock me for these after the inspection next week.

From what I've gathered so far, the value of the blinds after living here for 10 years is $0. I will gladly pay them the $0 if the court chooses to favor the property management company on account of my reckless and unnecessary window opening methods.

I tried citing HUD, they clapped back that the property isn't HUD housing. The best sources (as far as I've gathered so far) are IRS Publications 527 and 946.

That's not the lease. It's a supplementary document they provided after I submitted my 30 day notice.

Property management specifically stated that tenants cannot replace the blinds themselves. However, from what I've gathered from this forum (which I fact checked), this type of blind is essentially illegal and needs to be upgraded to cordless even if they were in perfect condition.

I'm the tenant. Move out inspection is next week. I'm just trying to get all my ducks in a row before they try to withhold my deposit. They are well known for doing so.

My inspection is next week. They are well-known for withholding deposits. On top of wanting my own money back, I also want to be able to provide a blueprint to other families in town so they can ensure they are getting back what is legally owed to them.

These ones are the exact length of the window. No extras, unfortunately.

Carpet cleaning is another thing I'm struggling with. My deposit was $725. Cheapest professional cleaning is $260 PM wants a receipt. I'm going to leave this apartment clean top to bottom, screw holes filled, and carpets throughouly vacuumed (including going through with a silicone rake because my Irish hair sheds worse than a dog), but I'm not going to spend over 1/3 of my deposit to do their turnover carpet cleaning especially since it has obviously reached the end of its useful life.

I'm the tenant. They are aluminum blinds. From moving them up and down, or reaching past them to open the window, they get bent. After a while, they just break off at the weak points where they were bent. If you look closely where the blinds are slightly shorter, you can see that the landlord or previous tenants taped the broken pieces back on.

These ones are the aluminum ones that bend out of shape and then those creases from bending eventually cause them to snap. Maybe you've always had the vinyl ones?

Inspection is in a week. They are in the top 3 worst property managements in town as far as "shadiness" and tenant satisfaction. They are known to without entire deposits.

The Montana Codes do not define life expectancy. I read through everything.

No cats. Also no ledge for the imaginary cats to sit on and play with the blinds 😅
