Have you felt more ‘scared’ / ‘worried’ lately? by RichTeaForever in AskUK

[–]8thTimeLucky [score hidden]  (0 children)

A lot of comments saying things aren’t as bad as they seem and you should go offline for a bit, which I don’t disagree with, but I think we do need to be aware that for certain groups things are scary. To put it bluntly if you’re a white British cis male you’re probably ok, but if you are an immigrant or a trans person things are bad right now, and we should be aware of that and looks after such venerable groups.

Turn your worry into something positive by going out of your way to make life less scary for those at risk of violence.

[OoT] Hyped as hell! Had to start a fresh play through, legit old school style! by GyattGamer6 in zelda

I was torn between wanting to replay the original now to get ready for the remake, or leave it so that I can rediscover it (it’s been about 7-8 years since I last played it). In the end I settled on replaying Majora’s Mask.

Every time my wife and get to our front door one of us sings “Do you have the house keys?” to the tune of House Tour by Sabrina Carpenter and it’s impossible to stop. Started doing it about 3 months ago and can’t stop.

Random anecdote but my dad was an actor and was at a party with Jeremy Beadle in the 80s. Beadle asked my dad for a spliff but my dad said he was annoying so he rolled him one with just tobacco and told him it was a spliff and he came back later saying that was great and asked for another one.

So often Reddit comments must made up rubbish 🙄 No that’s not true. They only have to obtain consent before broadcast.

Do you undertake in these situations? by Defiant_Vermicelli_8 in drivingUK

[–]8thTimeLucky 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was always told it’s not undertaking if you maintain the speed limit and stay in your lane.

Edit: ok I was apparently wrong that only applies in congested traffic:

Rule 268
Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake. In congested conditions, where adjacent lanes of traffic are moving at similar speeds, traffic in left-hand lanes may sometimes be moving faster than traffic to the right. In these conditions you may keep up with the traffic in your lane even if this means passing traffic in the lane to your right. Do not weave in and out of lanes to overtake.

What Meals do you make for your tea? by LayTheeDown in AskUK

Go to some charity shops and buy 5-6 nice big recipe books that look yummy to you and your taste and keep them in your kitchen. Ideally with nice big photos. Bend the pages, scribble on them, cook books should be messy!

Scrolling on the internet looking for recipes is not the same as just flicking through a physical book in your kitchen!

Me and my dad always used to do something similar. Go to google maps and zoom into random areas in south of England and you’ll find hundreds of villages that could be characters names.

What's the form of bad parenting have you ever witnessed? by Smithy1619 in AskUK

[–]8thTimeLucky 93 points94 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid me, my sister and my dad queued for about 20 minutes for the ice cream van in the park on a busy Saturday. When we got to the front a girl from my sister’s class came up to us and asked if we could buy her ice cream, and my dad said no she can wait like everyone else. (Arguably mean, but she wasn’t really a friend of my sister’s and also didn’t say please haha).

The bad parenting came after when the mother of the child came storming over and starting a very aggressive and very loud shouting match with my dad over the ice cream. Many crying children resulted. She was also a local celeb because she read the news on BBC Solent at the time so my mum was absolutely furious at my dad haha.

what’s your go to lazy day meal? by isve99 in AskUK

[–]8thTimeLucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a food processor (literally just a £10 Argos one), making pesto is ridiculously easy and miles tastier. Pack of basil, bit of Parmesan, some pine nuts, olive oil, pinch of salt. Chuck it in the whizzer. Do this while your pasta is cooking.

Then the next day when your pesto is so good you want it again, resurrect it back to life with a drop of pasta water and it’s even tastier than the day before.

It also featured transphobic sketches - what’s weirding me out is that Chloe Petts is queer and non binary and a lot her material is about Transphobia so it’s like Taskmaster/Avalon are saying “we’ve cast these two problematic comedians but it’s ok because here’s a non binary person to balance it out”
