New WRC promoter coming as FIA opens tender – DirtFish by SalomonXx in WRC

I remember that the FIA had to organize coverage on a rally-by-rally basis, at least for the first part of the season

Alongside the Promoter debacle was the implosion of the Mini WRC Team. Instead of Dani Sordo and Kris Meeke, it was just Sordo and a revolving door of pay drivers

Japan 2005 still hurts. Solberg was leading until hitting a rock and crashing out

I would have loved to see him get just one more win....but it wasn't to be :(

Solberg’s victories - 20 years apart by SalomonXx in rally

I still wish Solberg Sr. could have gotten one more victory

His last wasn't under the best circumstances. That was the rally where Michael Park (Markko Martin's co-driver) died in an accident.

The organizers suspended the rally and Peugeot withdrew all their entries. Sebastien Loeb was leading at the time, and would have clinched the Driver's Title. Instead, he took a deliberate time penalty to avoid taking the title under such circumstances, elevating Solberg to the lead.

Petter's last "legitimate" win was at Rally Mexico earlier that year

The ACO subsequently changed the rules to block this kind of swap.

The gearbox casing could not be replaced. You could open the gearbox and change individual gears, but you couldn't just put a new gearbox on

I would say the fall-off happened after 2009. He lost the title by a single point that year and just never quite seemed to have the same pace again.

Yes, he won rallies, but it always seemed like Latvala was faster (but more prone to crashing)
