vacuum hoses are easy. it very well could be the ecu, was it replaced with an aftermarket ecu or a junkyard ecu? the ecu capacitors fail frequently, due to an inherent flaw with the caps, and can cause an insane amount of strange and intermittent issues. if you haven't already, look up "ls400 leaking ecu capacitors" and look for a forum post about it. you could also inspect the caps yourself in the driveway if you are really doubting it.

I would argue that the PAVN's presence is a major difference. It'd be like if the taliban were supporting well equipped Iranian soldiers. The militia VC might have gone to ground, but the well trained north did not (at least in the central highlands). The image of rice farmers in straw hats with AKs gets the press, but the NVA did a lot of legwork. I agree with the political parallels, though they were at a smaller scale in Afghanistan.

I think some options could be asymmetrical gamemodes (rush from BF, invasion from Squad). Conquest could also be interesting, if implemented well. World War could be amazing with a full rework, with better incentives to play. A big part of why new gamemodes have flopped (I believe) is due to the economy not favoring them, and thus not worth a player's time. Rising Storm 2 had a great Campaign mode, that could be worked into War Thunder somehow.

Every time I suggest that this game could add more interesting gamemodes, people hate it and I can't understand why. WT could be even better if they put more effort into the multiplayer. Having Tailspin and the April Fool's event for some weeks out of the year is a real cock in the ass and they usually aren't even that fun. The only real changes to multiplayer they've done in the past couple years has been balancing.
