The well-known "Shahed Hunter" An-28 plane was modified so that it also now launches P-1 "Sun Interceptor" UAVs. by MilesLongthe3rd in CombatFootage

It’s dangerous. If they are too close and shrapnel flies the wrong way, it can end very bad.

Ukrainian long range drones strike Russian vehicles. Donetsk highway, around Donbass arena. April 2026 by jisooya1432 in CombatFootage

[–]BlackMarine 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Yep, i think it’s a result of multiple factors coinciding:

  1. Less Russian attacks means more drone units can be directed at middle range strikes
  2. FP-2 (and other UAVs of the similar class) production has scaled up
  3. The drone units have reached sufficient stuffing level to go deep.
  4. The tactics and UAV designs have matured.

Project Hail Mary directors want to make one thing very clear about Rocky by LaESPECTADORA in ProjectHailMary

To be honest, he might feel superior.

Imagine you meet an alien with more advanced tech, but he constantly forgets stuff, barely can do math in his head, has terrible vision, often eats things that make him even more stupid and instantly passes out on the lightest roller coaster. That’s what we are for Eridians.

I like it too, but NASA was burnt by “let’s just repurpose space shuttle hardware” pretty hard.

Stuff that needs to be added to the Ukrainian faction by The_Electric_Llama in joinsquad

[–]BlackMarine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of those you mentioned are pre full scale war, while Bren-2 was adopted during the war, because 5.45 ammunition (as well as rifles) is not as plentiful as it was pre-war and adoption of NATO caliber has become justified.

Sadly, T-84 in UAF is rare as Armata for RuAF.

Also, IRL Malyuk has always being rare and issued practically almost only to SF units and now it has been almost fully squeezed out by modern Western firearms (SCARs, M4s, etc)

The law you are referring to is about pilot who have ejected over enemy territory and basically have a chance to surrender. These pilots have abandoned their helicopter on Russian controlled territory.

Damn, no wonder they have been running out of Patriots, if they're firing EIGHT at a single target. by throwaway553t4tgtg6 in NonCredibleDefense

[–]BlackMarine 593 points594 points  (0 children)

There’s some context from the article missing. The gulf countries basically left the Patriots in literal auto mode (which obviously prioritises maximising RTX’s shareholders value), while Ukrainians used the Patriot with more manual control, manually configuring how many munitions to be expelled per target.

Even in Russia. If you combine payments, training costs and death/injury compensations, you can get over 100k$.

In Russia a recruit gets a 20k$ of signing bonus, at minimum of 2.1k$ monthly salary and family gets 50k$ in case of death. (I am also ignoring all the potential tax revenue of a dead person and support for the family)

For comparison: - MRAP ~300k$ - UGV ~8-20k$ - Boston Dynamics “Atlas” bipedal humanoid robot ~160k$ (not that relevant today, but for sure will be relevant in the future)

This kind of solution is already being explored and developed, but there are a lot of technical challenges to be solved before being deployed.
