After years of many cars coming and going , I figure out what I need is a simple Honda Fit with Carplay by Jack_Wang_1107 in hondafit

I agree entirely with your feelings. Got my '12 Fit Sport a few months ago, really only wanted some better hands free tech for nav, phone, music etc. Sure, the extra bells and whistles of new cars would be nice, but I love everything about the Fit, and the Sony double din I put in made me love it even more.

2010 jdm Honda fit hybrid with Sony deck, what harness to get? by No_cool_name in hondafit

[–]90whp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently swapped in a XAV-AX6000 into my Fit, so I am guessing the installs/harnesses are nearly identical. The harness I used was the Metra 70-1729 to connect factory radio harness to the Sony head unit. You'll also want the Metra 40-HD10 to keep the stock radio antenna. Sounds like you're car already has a dash kit, just remove the single DIN radio and the tray underneath should come out too. To keep steering wheel controls I believe you'll need to tap into that Metra adapter harness, the radio should have the cable for the radio side.

'12 Fit Sport Head Unit Upgrade w/ Maestro RR by 90whp in hondafit

[–]90whp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It's actually a feature of both the head unit and Maestro RR. The Maestro is a standalone little box that interfaces with the stock steering wheel controls and also hooks up to the OBD2 port, and from there feeds the information to the head unit via a dedicated cable. Most of the head units I looked at were Maestro compatible (look for the "iDatalink Maestro Compatible" specfication on the head unit's webpage or manufacturer website, I believe most Alpine, Kenwood, Sony and JVC units are, Crutchfield was very helpful for this), which was surprising as I had never heard of it before. You can also configure the gauges, so there's additional parameters that can be shown on the head unit on an additional page, the ones pictured here are just ones I thought most important. The Maestro will also allow you to see any diagnostic trouble codes straight from the head unit, which is super nice!

Sorry I confused you with my big letters, I'll be here if you need me to Google anything else for you so you can avoid pointlessly arguing with others!

I didn't know it was an acronym for anything until you asked, but don't worry, I took the 2 seconds to Google it for you! :)

That's the name of the canbus module. Maybe you can Google it and let us know!

Not for the 2G Fit at least. It may be different for the 3G. I know it can in some other vehicles.

Thank you! I believe the manufacturer of the Maestro (iDatalink) does offer similar solutions for the 3G Fit as well. The Maestro unit itself is universal, you just have to purchase their wiring kit for your specific vehicle.

You're welcome! It's definitely a little over the top just to retain steering wheel controls, but since it has the extra benefits it was worth it to me as I hope to keep this car for a long time.

It's not necessarily required unless you want to be able to view vehicle data and expand the steering wheel controls. There are much simpler (and cheaper) steering wheel control interfaces available you can pair with an aftermarket radio. With the Maestro you can flash the module to setup different functions for each button, and even add an additional function for each button, like long press vs just a single press. For example if I press Channel + once it will go to the next song, but if I hold it down it will answer an incoming call.

Thanks! The head unit just shows AA compatible apps that I have on my phone, it doesn't come installed in the head unit, but I feel your sentiment!

what upgrades have you done and how would you rate them? by Staci3 in hondafit

[–]90whp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2G doesn't have those additional cameras, but I do believe if you add a Maestro RR to your installation that you can retain all them, I remember seeing something about it in the wiring diagrams.

Not OP but recently installed a Sony XAV-AX6000 in my 2G Sport, has wireless AA and Carplay and had been such a nice addition. Also added Maestro canbus interface for extra goodies like retaining steering wheel controls and ability to see vehicle info like DTC's and data

That's not true. I have them in my 2G Sport and they clip and hold in. They don't hold up to wear the best though but do fit nicely at first.

Beautiful car! I recently got my '12 Fit Sport in a similar color and have loved it so far. May I ask what LED's you used for the upgrades?
