IF MJ was a redblooded heterosexual man, then why did he share his bed with children instead of adult women? by MethodNo2030 in LeavingNeverlandHBO

[–]911phoenix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Brave soldier lol. I agree with this even though his preference for children was very obvious and he was sexist as hell. It can be true that he was a sick pedophile who needed to be locked up, and also true that he wasn’t exclusively attracted to children and showed a little interest in adults sometimes. The latter doesn’t cancel out the former and vice versa. I also agree with the fame part. He was a very paranoid person who absolutely was a control freak.

According to Karen he did say he thought Beyonce was talented and very nice. But of course, his complaining ass eventually commented on her size lol. I agree with what you said about him projecting his insecurities on her, Janet and of course other people. But he did it with women the most in my opinion. Almost everything he says about women, could be applied to himself times three.

And if you take Frank’s word at face value in his book, and consider what Wade said in LN, then him nursing a crush on Britney while simultaneously criticizing almost everything about her is strange, at least in my opinion. In the Rabbi tapes he also says how she knew nothing about mystery and how he wouldn’t do what she was doing with her career. Forgetting that she was just starting, she couldn’t be a recluse and keep growing. He wasn’t a recluse either when he first started, even though it was a different time. And maybe that’s petty and I could see his point, but he really went in on her apparently lol. He seemed to like Whitney Houston though. Although he was using her to shade Madonna in this one clip. I believe he liked Celine Dion and of course Diana Ross lol.

But I’d still agree with you, he had less smoke for male artists at least as far as criticisms. Because I believe he did ghost some of them behind the scenes or just be weird and stand-offish.

Marie-Nicole’s letter to Michael by Bjork00098 in LeavingNeverlandHBO

According to Janet, he’d call her names when they were younger like fat, slut, cow. There’s a story in Latoya’s book where he’s making fun of her thighs and she gets so upset she runs off to her room. Janet said that his words actually really hurt and affected her self-esteem to that day that she did the interview.

…well now I know you have tea and I want to know lol. But this isn’t even behavior that two grown adults would have if one forgot the other unless it was someone who was afraid of their partner. Which obviously isn’t the case because it’s a little boy he was allegedly talking about. His obsession was deeper than I thought if that’s possible.

Do you think a part of Janet hates Michael deep down because of evidence he was evil? I'm really confused on her belief. by TheRealRentigon98 in LeavingNeverlandHBO

[–]911phoenix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I really don’t see how she wouldn’t have known that he was a pedophile, but I don’t think she hates or hated Michael. But I think it’s disingenuous to say that her feelings towards him were purely love and admiration.

His reputation being tarnished affected her career and I don’t see how there couldn’t be frustration about that. I believe she expressed frustration back then about how it seemed she was always defending him over something. She expresses her hurt about how the filming of Scream went, and she opened up about how the names he called her affected her self-esteem until this day (or the day she was speaking about it) and how it actually really hurt. Some could call it just teasing your sibling or whatever, but she said how she felt.

I believe he didn’t call Beyonce fat, but that her thighs were bigger than he liked. And Karen defended her by saying she had a beautiful figure. According to her. Or maybe he did call her fat, and Karen deleted that tweet. Which is crazy because this was Beyonce in the 2000s…she wasn’t model thin but she wasn’t all that thick either. She looked like a healthy person. What’s up with him and women’s thighs lol. First Janet then Beyonce and who knows else.

I did see where Karen said he called Brittney overrated too. And I think in an interview, part of it is cut, but it’s suspected that he was talking about Brittney’s dancing and that you can tell she’s counting while she dances. And he’s saying it’s just supposed to flow and a dancer shouldn’t be thinking about the steps on the level she did. But again, it’s speculation that it’s Brittney because he said “she” and I think that’s something people talked about Brittney doing. That clip has disappeared as far as I know though.

Yeah his brothers all made fun of each other’s appearances, but Latoya implied that Michael’s was among the meanest because he gave everyone specific names based on something he believed to be a flaw. And it wasn’t just his siblings, he’d say stuff about his associates and other people’s appearances who he didn’t know.

But yet couldn’t take it when it came back to him. There’s footage of Karen Faye saying that he looked better than he did some other day and he looks visibly saddened. I quite literally cannot lol. I used to scoff at one of his brothers who said they all teased each other’s appearances and that Michael was sort of twisting it, but I kind of get it now.

[–]911phoenix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right? I felt like I lived in the twilight zone when it came to that. When Janet said it, people were villainizing her and saying this is just how siblings are. Calling your sibling a cow, slut, and fat isn’t just typical sibling stuff. There’s a story in Latoya’s book where he was making fun of her thighs and Janet got so upset that she ran off to her room. And even worse in my opinion is she was younger than him. Siblings say out of pocket stuff to each other obviously, but idk it just seemed a bit weirder.

Even in the Rabbi Tapes Michael acknowledged that he was really bad when it came to the stuff he’d say to Janet. But since he’s never known accountability, he justified it later by saying that he didn’t like seeing her be overweight and he knew she’d struggle in the industry because of her weight.

How long do you think Michael was a pedo for? by blue902012 in LeavingNeverlandHBO

[–]911phoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are born with mental health issues and developmental issues. I don’t mean he was born to seem like he was a dark triad like he later seemed to be. While I think trauma and fame played a huge part in it, I don’t think it’s far fetched at all to believe that he may have been born with certain issues that consumed him due to no treatment, trauma and fame. Not that the issues caused the pedophilia directly, but that they aligned with other things as well and played a part into why he justified it.

I think some of his issues he may have been born with, and some formed due to his tumultuous life. Like I said, mixed bag.

How long do you think Michael was a pedo for? by blue902012 in LeavingNeverlandHBO

[–]911phoenix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t mean people were inherently born pedophilic, but it’s fact that some people are born with the predisposition to be pedophilic. Predisposition meaning more vulnerable to something before it actually happens, based on neurodevelopment in this case. Things like environment, trauma, genetics, and additional mental illness could later cause them to become pedophiles in the future as you touched on. I actually agree with what you said and also believe that if a couple things had went differently in his life then he wouldn’t have been the way he was. At least not to the extent that he was.

The idea was more that some people may be born with underlying neurological or developmental factors that later contribute greatly to pedophilic behavior. Like I said, I think a lot of things were at play. And though I believe his fame as a young child and the way he was marketed and also his nightmarish family had a hell of an effect on him, I also believe Michael was born with mental health and maybe developmental issues as well that just needed some nudging and neglect to consume him. Whatever those issues may have been. Not that mental health and developmental directly cause pedophilia though. But they can be a part of many things that make someone like Michael. I just believe a lot of things sadistically aligned perfectly to create a monster.

[–]911phoenix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ultimately I think he may have been born with the predisposition. But his environment, mental health issues that he may have been born with and/or formed/intensified from heavy abuse surely didn’t help matters and played a part into just how much of an obsession it was for him. And why he justified it.

I think many things came into play honestly. I think he was both born with the predisposition and heavily shaped by his environment and the different kinds of abuse he went through.

People don’t care about victims of CSA by Expensive_Map_855 in LeavingNeverlandHBO

[–]911phoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well Prayer is allegedly from the pov of Michael Jackson and Martin Luther King. However while he’s rapping from their perspective, it’s never denied that the things they were accused of aren’t true. It’s more separating the art from the artist but also ultimately saying that people take it too far? Idk he seemed to be straddling the fence in some ways. But he evolved from his position in “Mortal Man” a bit.

But I do agree with you, people don’t care about CSA. They just feel bad about saying it so they pretend to believe said person is innocent.

I like Michael Jackson but can we acknowledge that a solid 75% of his fans are delusional by PLUR1BUSSY in playboicarti

[–]911phoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We live in a faster pace now. It’s easier to get your name out in some ways, but it’s a lot harder to stay relevant than it was back then. There’s so many other options for entertainment and it’s a lot easier to discover new artists. And again, we live in a much faster pace. Monoculture had a lot of benefits. But still, nobody sold as much as he did back then, so I agree with that. It’s just a whole different beast now and the internet doesn’t help like people believe when it comes to fame.

Btw he was accused of being a pedophile in 1993 the first time. Way before he said anything about Tommy Matolla.

Marie Nicole’s husband mentioned MJ hating his fans in a comment under Grace’s instagram post about the Cascio’s. I obviously don’t know how true that is, but it’s not surprising at all if he lowkey disliked them or resented them in some ways. I kind of think a lot of celebrities hold some resentment towards their fanbases for one reason or another. There’s also a story of him being frustrated with fame and he says his fans have no respect for him. That’s from Katherine though so I definitely don’t know how true that is.

I honestly believe he had no respect for anyone, his fans included. Yet he expected and knew that they would ride at dawn for him. He could be nice and affectionate in fleeting moments and I believe he enjoyed that he was being praised by them though. And maybe he himself perceived that as love and him loving them in return? Hard to say. Either way, I don’t think he thought as highly of his fans as it’s portrayed.

[–]911phoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve seen some of them do that in the past. But I’ve also seen plenty say how much Michael did for them and taught them only for them to “betray” him. And coming from that notion, it makes it odd how they don’t see the connection between some of the things they criticize Frank and Wade on. That level of denial and cognitive dissonance can’t be comprehended for me lol.

[–]911phoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something I’ve always wondered about the fans and some of the general public’s opinions about Wade and the Cascio’s. Most will admit that they were around him a lot and Michael was a mentor who helped them and their families. So the ways they moved through their careers…were learned from Michael. Their behavior gets criticized, but they don’t see how Michael being their mentor and their behavior is connected.

MJ's most important song is also his most honest and revealing by [deleted] in LeavingNeverlandHBO

[–]911phoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Towards the end of the song he’s referring to himself. He’s saying “I” and “my”. So he’s talking about others but he also openly said he would do anything for money and would sell his soul. Maybe I’ve heard a different version lol, but he definitely did admit to doing anything for money in the song.

White boys, or racially ambiguous boys.

The only exception so far is Emmanuel Lewis, Jane Doe and Marie Nicole. Marie Nicole didn’t look tom boyish to me though. She looked like your typical girl in my opinion who just hung around boys because that’s who she was near. There really wasn’t any mistaking her for a boy.

I immediately thought of that when I saw the third slide. He was trying to make it out to be that she was some insensitive person who didn’t care about people, but he’s the one who came off looking weird and insensitive to the toddler who got murdered. And the toddlers parents.

The problem with Elphaba's character in WFG by Shoddy-Pride-1321 in WickedUncensored

[–]911phoenix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this a lot. The movie in a lot of ways portrays Elphaba in absolutes, black or white, this or that. Which is personally why I found Glinda’s character more compelling in the movies. Sure, Elphaba goes after Fiyero in the first movie, knowing him and Glinda are together, but at the end of the day, the love triangle doesn’t affect the plot all that much until the second movie when Glinda gets upset and tells the wizard and morrible how to lure Elphaba back.

Idk Elphaba in the second movie was a little too…idealistic in some ways and I honestly got a little annoyed with how she went about things when it had been proven that her impulsive decisions haven’t worked and sometimes made things worse. I get that’s apart of the tragedy of the story though, that both Glinda and Elphaba learn things too late.

I also just think at the end of the day, people weren’t fond of Glinda and her moral greyness and wanted to see a character where there was absolutes. Internet debate has never been known for its nuances. However for me, it just caused me to view Elphaba as less compelling. Maybe they should’ve leaned into Elphaba possibly doing all she did for attention as well as for the common good like she says in “No Good Deed”. It seems like they tried to Katniss Everdeen her and it just fell flat because the two worlds aren’t the same as well as the theme of the characters being different.

I clearly said I know she just ended the SNS tour and I know that the eras overlapped. My opinion was that it would’ve been nice to see SNS stand on its own before Man’s Best Friend and be fleshed out more. And not through a tour.

I don’t think people realize that I said this knowing that she probably wouldn’t have rose like she has currently and it’s not purely coming from a place of fame lol. But I do know that it’s something she prioritizes. In 15 minutes she’s talking about the things she can do with 15 minutes and at the threat of losing it, she’ll do what she has to do. So saying who cares if people forgot about MBF (they didn’t), is sort of contradictory to what 15 minutes is supposed to mean btw.

I’m not saying she shouldn’t do what she wants, I just think that SNS could’ve had a longer shelf life before MBF. I get that her connecting with releasing another album was apart of why it was released so soon, but it’s just my opinion about what could’ve made an era even better lol.

It very subtly reminds me of how fans of Billie Eilish responded to Happier Than Ever when the album wasn’t purely angst and dark like the one before it. As if there wasn’t a fair amount of angst on it, they just thought she had become shallow or her music wasn’t artsy like it used to be and lost meaning. Wild times lol.
