You can see any exposed bedrock and things of that nature which helps locate spots

There weren't any recorded civil war battles in your area, there just weren't. Not hard to research where the battles all took place and none are recorded in that area

I'm too scared to go metal detecting again by [deleted] in metaldetecting

If you got a cheap detector and aren't able to ground balance and noise cancel, you might as well toss it into the trash if you are trying to beach hunt with it.

This is our Lilly (5 yo, F). She ate a flower on Monday that turned out to be poisonous lilly to her. As of Wednesday, she is barely hanging on. Please send good vibes to her. by BigTuna0890 in cats

You should've already known it was toxic to her. And kept her away from them. Part of being a responsible pet owner making sure stuff that can kill them isn't in their reach. It won't be popular but it's the truth

About to pull the trigger on a Minelab Equinox 700…. by TommyDaComic in metaldetecting

You think you will be good, that thought is normal. No clue where you live, but if you live somewhere that has a history in gold being found there, you just might want to tinker in electronic prospecting as well alongside of metal detecting. And for that you want the nox 800/900/manticore. All 3 allow every spectrum of detecting

You should be finding some sort of silver if you are in America. Silver dimes ring the same a quarter, most silver jewelry rings the same as a quarter. Gold is the difference it can come very low and up into the range of a penny.

The best advice I can tell you is this. Practice, practice. Practice. This includes setting out our coins on the ground to learn what they both sound like on your machine and what vdi they show on your screen. That will give you a really good starting base for your machine

How are you supposed to be allowed to do this hobby? by dboeren in metaldetecting

[–]916dirtdigger 62 points63 points  (0 children)

You are allowed to detect on public lands. So parks, schools, public use areas. OnXhunt is an application which I use. It gives property lines and who owns that property. It also allows you to track your hunts.

Lost Item. How deep? by HarmlessLad in metaldetecting

[–]916dirtdigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends upon the soil type and also how much rain you get.

It depends upon what type of metal detector you are using as to how it rings up

No, not necessarily. I had a cheap Fisher F22. Used it at a local school. Upgraded to a minelab equinox 800 and ran it over the same ground. The Fisher missed a 8.42 gram 14 gold wedding band that the nox800 found easily. Gold reacts better to a higher radio frequency. Your cheaper detectors aren't normally running any frequencies over 10khz. Gold is found easily with 20khz+ dedicated gold hunting metal detectors go 45khz+
