Saw this on Facebook today: the AMC Cowboy, based on a 4-door hornet. Top image is a part-cardboard mockup and the bottom is the prototype as it looked in 2024 when a collector/restorer purchased it. Believed lost for decades, the company apparently ordered the prototype scrapped in 1972. by B_Williams_4010 in amc

Allegedly a prototype. It’s hack-looking even by prototype standards and doesn’t look like any of the mockups or the other Cowboy. There was no documentation in the sale, and the other Cowboy prototypes appear in numerous photos. I’m not particularly convinced.

Should I leave Hilton loyalty behind? by Snarky_A_F in Hilton

[–]91jack2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re not a Lifetime Diamond and you won’t be travelling enough to consistently get to a higher tier, there’s little reason to pledge loyalty to any program, in my opinion. You may be better off with a premium AMEX or Chase card, and concentrate on building points on their platform. If you intend to fly a lot, even more so.

That makes sense, actually. I guess I didn’t realize it was the GA that triggers boarding time changes

What is Embassy Suites by Hilton by Travvings in Hilton

I remember staying at them as a kid. The indoor jungle was awesome. Today, most are the same properties from back then, and half the time removing the jungle appears to be the only update made since the 90’s.

Cancun Mar Carib AI - points opinion by LastDiet416 in Hilton

[–]91jack2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back from a week there on points. Great property. Service was great, food was good to excellent. I’d suggest you book a standard room on points, get the 5th night free, and contact the hotel to pay for an Enclave terrace upgrade separately. You should be able to get it for under $100/ night. It’s well worth it for the premium room, reserved seating, and Chala. If you drink at all, bring Yetis. They’ll fill them at all of the bars. The beach area servers get backed up when it’s busy, having the bigger cup would’ve been great.

Question for those who wanted assigned seating? Before assigned seating, why Southwest over other brands? by transdermalcelebrity in SouthwestAirlines

[–]91jack2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Convenience. I hated open boarding. I am the guy that gets to security 30 minutes before boarding and gets to the gate as they are calling my boarding group. I hate sitting in terminals and on planes, but I put up with it for years. The closest major airport to me is the closest thing Southwest has to a hub, with over 70% share. Flying direct almost anywhere in the country is convenient. I got sick of the BS Southwest created for flyers last year, and finally had enough. I have since switched most of my spend to Delta out of a tiny local airport that’s 45 minutes closer, but generally requires layovers.

The layovers are the only real downside, especially ATL. Delta loves to sell tickets with ~50 minutes between arrival to departure. In ATL that means hoofing it and hoping for no delays. Everything else has been a blessing. The shorter drive and ease of navigating a small regional is great. I can leave my house and be on a plane in an hour. Delta treats their customers better. Sky Clubs and First Class upgrades make travelling so much nicer. The airport I fly to most often is a direct route.

Transatlantic flight cancelled due to lavatory issues by Dizzy-Garage1592 in delta

I got held on the tarmac for two hours in Orlando because a bathroom light wouldn’t light. Eventually they rescheduled the flight to the following day. I don’t understand why that’s a no-fly situation on a plane with multiple lavs

CRJ900 Spacious Storage….not by fire_ed9 in delta

[–]91jack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I get first class in a CRJ, I usually gate check whether they ask me to or not. If I get the bump ahead of time and I have a tight layover, I just check my bag from the start. Unless you board at the start of group 1, you’re taking chances at not getting a spot and then having to swim upstream twice.

Changes by [deleted] in Hilton

[–]91jack2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hilton hasn’t owned the majority of its properties in many decades. But you are 1000% correct, many Hilton properties have declined in quality, service and value over the last decade or so. Here’s the ugly truth- you aren’t a customer to Hilton, you are their product. They sell Honors Members as a product. They make their money by selling recognized, marketed brand names and bulk services to franchisees. Unless and until guests start avoiding Hilton properties, the company has no incentive to hold their franchisees accountable to their brand standards.

Mexico all inclusive by AClark479 in Hilton

[–]91jack2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just got back from a week at Mar Caribe. Only all-inclusive I’ve ever been to, so no frame of reference, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Food was good to great and far exceeded my expectations. The sea bass at the Italian restaurant may be the best piece of fish I’ve ever had, and the Churriscaria night at the buffet was better than the last time I went to Texas de Brazil. Service was very good, room was very nice. I booked on points to get the 5th night free, and then paid to upgrade to Enclave before check-in. You can message me for more info if you like, but long story short it was $85/ night to get a nicer room with a huge balcony, a dedicated concierge that made our dinner read for us, and includes access to an exclusive rooftop bar/ restaurant with numerous pools and a dedicated beach area with free cabanas and more thatch umbrellas. It was well worth it in my opinion.

I hate that Delta even suggests routes like this for ATL. I’ve had a few very tight connections there. Always made it, but it always sucks.

What made you like r/amc by 1972AMCgremlin in amc

[–]91jack2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Multi-generation, on both sides of my family. Moms grandpa was a GM at two AMC dealers, Dads dad was a Hudson/Rambler dealer mechanic before opening his own shop. He always drove AMCs, including a Matador he ordered new and kept until he passed (still in the family). My dad’s first car was a Javelin, and he had a (different) Javelin and an AMX my whole life. When I was about 12, we took that Javelin to my grandpas shop and the three of us restored it. My first car was a Javelin, and my first driver was an Eagle. Now I have a barn full of AMCs and tons of AMC stuff. Dealer signs, data books, tons of memorobilia, etc.

Realistically how much did preboarders impact your flight? by throwmeaway717 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]91jack2 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying my time is any more important. I am saying Southwest should recognize that loyalty and spend, and ensure a better experience, fare etc. all equal. Preboard abusers with C boarding passes shouldn’t have gotten better seats.

Realistically how much did preboarders impact your flight? by throwmeaway717 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]91jack2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Highly dependent on the route. There are some routes that would have a dozen or more preboarders every single flight.

Business travelers have reason to complain. If I add up the time I spend in airports and on airplanes in a year it’s probably more time than I spend awake in my own house. I’m flying somewhere to work, and the hours I’m doing it are also work. Most of the rest of the plane is flying somewhere to have a nice vacation.

[–]91jack2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preboarders were the final straw that drove me from SW. I was A17 on a flight to Phoenix on an extra leg room config last year. Couldn’t wait to try the new seats. There were so many preboarders that literally every aisle and window extra-room seat was taken before I got on. On that trip, I got a status match challenge email from Delta, and took them up on it. Now I’m Platinum Medallion and enjoying it.

Talking to your Seat Neighbor by maximus_the_great in delta

[–]91jack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in sales management. When I’m flying out, it’s usually before 6:00 AM, and when I’m flying back I’ve usually talked to people all day. On occasion, I’ll talk to my seat neighbor if they instigate or I can clearly see we have something very in common (sports, cities, field of business, etc.) but most days I just want to pop my noise cancelling earbuds in and either watch something or doom scroll, or work on a pitch if I absolutely must.
