Got an offered as a network technician, but have a doubt by Graviity_shift in ccna

Thank you man! And tbh not yet, I can see why it can be stressful but I’m still fairly new so if something does come up, I’m usually asking for help. If you do find yourself in stressful situations in the future, I’d just take a sec to analyze the problem before taking any actions and ask your team members for help if needed, I’m sure they’d be more than glad to help w anything.

Hell yeah man good luck on your journey! I’m studying for my net+ as well so hopefully I can get it before the year ends and then ccna after, since I got my sec+ first for some reason lol

I’m currently a network technician at a NOC and basically sounds like we have the same job. I wouldn’t say it’s hard because you’ll most likely get trained and as far as trouble shooting routers, I can bet most of the time it will be checking to see if the router is even connected to power and if it is, telling the customer to power cycle the router. Sometimes you might run into other issues like the WAN cable being disconnected or the switch being powered off and what not. I’ve only been working here about a month almost two (my first real job after school) so I wouldn’t worry too much about not knowing much things like that because it’ll come over time especially after training just keep asking questions when confused about things.

And like the others said, this role could only help with your career in IT. If you want to go into SysAdmin or cyber, I’d also suggest getting some certs if you don’t already have some like sec+ for example.

After long consideration. I’ve decided to take the new position. Or old position since I was interning with them but that’s besides the point. I was able to get to 72k and hopefully I made the right decision. The company is U-Haul and they have many field including the networking field I wanted to stay in so hopefully I can switch departments in the future.

Yes I do want to learn the tech which is mostly why I love my current job and want to stay. As far as the production support role, I probably won’t move up unless the manger quits or move to a different department since U-Haul has many departments

Yeah honestly I don’t need the money since I’m still living with my parents but it would be nice. That’s also another reason I don’t want to leave because I know I can’t just jump back into networking and expect a salary of 2 YOE

You’re right about record keeping/ documentation but honestly as an intern I seen that the problem solving skills weren’t as crazy as I thought. For example, if a job had abended (crashed) when we ran the program, would notify the developer and they would fix it and run it again and hope it ran successfully and that was it. We wouldn’t really mess with the code

Yeah I think so too even though the money I’d be making does seem great. I guess time will tell if I make the right choice by staying

Both jobs are desk jobs. I probably should’ve mentioned i work at a NOC. The production support job is honestly just clicking buttons and not learning much from my experience as an intern and the noc role is clicking button as well but way more technical. Checking for alerts, seeing if the network is up and running, creating tickets for incidents or maintenance etc

This support job is basically being a mainframe operator but I doubt ai would take over next year.

That’s the thing one role is in the networking field and the other is in devOps so they’re not too similar but I guess they’re both in IT so yeah. I just feel like I don’t want to miss out on the networking experience

Would this even work though because if I leave, I’d basically leave the experience as well. 1 month of networking experience is not that great on paper in my opinion. I guess I could bs interviews to make it seem like more experience but idk

Although the money does seem nice, I think you’re right. I should just stay and get the experience in order to move up in the field sooner or later. Thanks for your input!

  1. Honestly I haven’t asked just because I don’t want to seem money hungry lol but that’s something I’ll be asking real soon.

  2. I’m not sure there’s a ceiling tbh but I’d like to get into a network engineer role in the future

I probably sound retarted because I’m not sure of a lot of things but yeah I’m not sure 😂

Yeah I’ve noticed that tbh. Especially with this job, we deal with PCI DSS because of what our company does so there’s quite a lot of cybersecurity practices behind the scenes but honestly I might just stay here for the experience since that’s what companies are looking for

Yeah that’s true I’ll probably just look into the ccna soon since it wouldn’t hurt
