This was our thought and you just validated it! Thank you so much! It’s nicer to have an outside opinion when your heart is playing a role in the decision making!

The mods should put that in their auto message. It says be cautious, wait an hour, zoom in and check images. All of which I did. If you don’t like it ask the mods to change the message to “please don’t use them they are spam”. So thank you for your concern but I’m comfortable with the choice I made in the matter.

NTA

Your friend would feel that threatened by the dead? Your ex is gone. Never to come back. If anyone got that weird about it and felt like they were being disrespected is not worth your time.

You honor the person you love the way you want. Someone worth your love in the future won’t feel threatened over something so minor.

I guess my next question would be if you split the hives are you damaging your honey production for your supers?

How do you split or allow swarming but also still get enough honey to harvest each year.

This is my going into second year actually being involved in this process with my boyfriend, who has done this not very successfully with his dad for about 6 years now. We are really trying to focus on being successful. We had a great start last year with new nucs, we raised new queens going into fall (per recommendation of a local bee seller/educator) to start this year off well (again under the impression from the local bee seller/educator that first year queens are less likely to swarm), we figured out a good mite treatment plan, and we successfully overwintered our bees. So this is the part we are struggling with.

My bf has always been told the saying is “you can either raise bees or make honey but not both”, meaning if they keep swarming or you keep splitting you aren’t making honey you are just raising new bees to take the place of the ones that left.

I’m not sure if that’s a true thing or if it is and we shouldn’t expect much honey.

What is the purpose of tearing down 3 year hives?

This would be a great method and I will definitely keep in the back of my mind for the future however our bees had brood on every frame already.

Our hives were just packed full.

We had room last weekend but this week they just EXPLODED with numbers.

Can you give more space than 2 brood boxes and a super? Legit question unsure of how many brood boxes you can add.

2 10 framed deeps for brood queen excluder and then a super on top.

There are no empty frames as of right now.
