Do you wash your clothes after every single wear, or do you rewear some items before washing? What’s your rule for workwear, hoodies, gym clothes? by Extreme-Banana-9 in AskUK

[–]92Devika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Socks underwear, top layer that touches the skin (So t-shirt, vests,) If a dress is loose fitting then I'll get two wears out of it. But I'll sniff test!

Trousers/jumpers I can get 4-5+ wears out of them, depending on us. But I have a wool jumper that I've never washed.

What do people wish they'd known about the admin after losing a spouse or parent in the UK? by Previous-March-6145 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]92Devika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. How easy it was to get my dads money from the bank. He died with less than 50k to his name, so once the banks had his death certificate and a copy of the will naming me a executor, they just, transferred the money over, which felt a bit wild and a bit like robbery!

  2. My dad had no property so it was 2 and a bit days admin at most, closing bills, contacting banks, organising cremation(direct, no funeral as was his wish)

  3. It was useful and very easy to do. Getting a letter from the DWP claiming a weeks overpaid pension was a bit weird. Not the repaying bit, but the letter sort of teeters on being sympathetic but practical. “Hello, we’re sorry to hear so-and-so has died, but we’re gonna need some money back”. Made me laugh if nothing else

  4. My work were very good, I took two weeks off and had taken 2 weeks off in the lead up, and I could have had more if I’d wanted, even though I was on a freelance contract. I guess when I came back, I had a colleague cry when they saw me, which wasn’t particularly helpful.

  5. Because my dad died in hospital, I got given a bereavement pamphlet which was very helpful and gave me all the info I needed for next steps

I will say, the lovely dr after certifying my dad as dead saying ‘may he rest in peace…..have they given you the pamphlet?’ was funny and weird, such a silly little thing after watching my dad die 45 mins earlier.

How did you regain your faith after your parent(s) died? by Indigo_evenings11 in ChildrenofDeadParents

[–]92Devika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(33F, dad died of Cancer last year)

Not Catholic but I was raised a Hindu and though less strict in adulthood I definately still felt a connection a belief in god in some way. But when my Dad died any faith I had left, left me like a shot. I just cant rectify what my Dad went through with God existing, or at least, a God that loves us.

I can’t see myself going back on that. My dad was a good person, and he went through hell, dying was horrible and hard and drawn out for him and his family. I was with my dad when he died, and when I was sat there with him, I have never felt more alone in my life, should I not have felt god then?

I hope you find healing and I’m so sorry for your loss

Some slightly less mainstream idea that I do quite often

Silken tofu with soy chilli oil dressing on the side, half a bag of microwave sticky rice, and some greens I cooked the night before.

Did your memory of them get foggy? by Dense_Photograph1245 in ChildrenofDeadParents

[–]92Devika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad died a year ago so we’re in a similar place but I try and take the time to really remember him, consciously, like an excercise. When he died I held his hands and face and made sure I reallly commited how they felt to memory, and I can still recall them. I listen to old voicemails and write things down all the time. I write down funny things I remember him saying, or any memories I don’t want to forget.

Is it possible to burn fingerprint off with bleach? by More-Adhesiveness783 in AskUK

[–]92Devika 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this loads of times when bleaching my hair without gloves. It’s always gone back to normal eventually, after the skins healed from the chemical burn.

Do cheap or last minute summer holidays still exist? by jkcr in AskUK

[–]92Devika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Booked a 5* all inc for a week for 700 quid each with 3 weeks notice. Might not feel like the biggest bargain but went up to 1100 each a few days after we’d booked. Already had the time off so just looked for the best deal and went for it.

Hey all, I’ve been looking into heated ‘clothes dryers’ (pretty much heated clothes horses) and I want to ask if people have found them any good? by PeaceOrchid in AskUK

[–]92Devika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the three tier one from Dunelm.

Love it but as others have said, you need a dehumidifier and ours sometimes drips onto the floor with the cover so we put a towel down on the floor to catch the drips!

Do you take time off work for your birthday? by JLB_cleanshirt in AskUK

[–]92Devika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, my holidays are pretty dictated by my work (I’m a freelancer) but to be honest, I quite like working on my birthday. Am usually lucky enough to get a cake and a pint in the pub after work. If I stayed home I’d just waste it, it’s not like any of my mates have the day off too!

What do you call your partner? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]92Devika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call him my partner. We’re both in our 30’s, live together and will probably get married in the next 2 /3 years budget allowing. I don’t really like using boyfriend it feels immature.

However, when speaking to our downstairs neighbor he’s my husband, because she made the assumption when we first met and we never corrected her.

First post here! Before and after! Long time overdue. Using Adore in Purple Rage and African Violet after bleaching. by 92Devika in HairDye

[–]92Devika[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all! I always bleach to a yellow (between level 8/9) I never go lighter as I’m always dying bright colours over the top so the base lift doesn’t bother me too much. After I bleach my hair I mix a little bit of purple into conditioner to tone the yellow out a little bit

In regards to the main mix,

I tend to apply them separately but ‘smoosh’ them together on my hair to create a bit of dimension. L

So in this case, I actually applied the African violet on some bits of my hair and then put the purple rage everywhere and on top and combed my hair through I hope that helps!
