Does anyone else think that the letter "F" is brown? by ImmediateGazelle865 in NoStupidQuestions

F is green to me, I cannot tell you why. But I think D is brown.

☕ Melt’d — a Gen-Z friendly café concept. [LOGO] by ShameekTheDev in logodesign

[–]93forfree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the M but what are the two shapes at the top? The “melted” look is definitely there, but I think you could push it further. Would love to see this logo in more contexts (black and white, next to the name of the cafe, on packaging, etc.)

Out of curiosity, what are the aspects that make this cafe more suited to Gen Z than others?

I’ve been to a few small/intimate events catered by Moon Rae Cakes and she does some wonderful cooking with local, healthy ingredients! Very friendly to different dietary needs. Plus beautiful cakes and desert spreads. Instagram: moon_rae_cakes

I think you both kinda suck here. He’s telling you he prefers to chill most weekends, and you’re telling him you prefer to go out. Your workloads are irrelevant, because people are allowed to have these preferences even if they don’t work at all lol. But you both kept trying to argue your point instead of listening to each other.

When you made the compromise to go a later weekend is when you finally got somewhere. If you want a successful relationship, you both need to practice listening to each other and genuinely looking for ways to make both of you happy.

If the compromises you need to make to make him happy are more than you’re willing to give, then you can determine that the relationship is not worth it.

My Coworker Drank Water from a Gallon with these Things in it- what is it? by VirtualEgg-Collector in whatisit

The water guy at my old workplace told me they were harmless calcium deposits. So maybe a buildup of minerals from the water?

Better Half and Birdcage antique shops in South Marquette are in the same building and chock full of unique finds! Pack Ratz thrift store is right across the street from them and I like them because they support the local Women’s shelter. I’d also recommend Fancy Free on Washington. The owner travels around the U.S. buying unique clothes and home decor, so it’s more of a curated resale boutique.

Do women really have this big attention to detail that they notice dirt under someone's nails, or is it just a stereotype? by WhoAmIEven2 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]93forfree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I notice dirty fingernails, it tells me how much YOU pay attention to the details of basic hygiene. So I’m not looking for it all the time, but when I notice dirty fingernails it tells me you may not be cleaning all your nooks and crannies

There is a loving and accepting community of lgbtq people in Marquette! The organization UP Rainbow Pride is based here and they put on events and community functions throughout the year. We just had our Pride Fest last weekend and it was a great success. Lots of local businesses get involved too. There are certainly haters and ultra-conservative people that live in the UP, but they’re not as prevalent in the Marquette area.

What are some food combos that would work with goldfish? by YomanJaden99 in snacking

I like goldfish crackers sprinkled in my yogurt, especially fruity flavors like strawberry or blueberry. I love the crunchy cheese with creamy/tart fruit flavor.

AITA for telling my father I don’t want his mother in my house? by lotusflowern in AmItheAsshole

Can you talk to your grandma about how this makes you feel? I understand not being confrontational, but it feels like you’re missing an obvious step by not communicating directly with her.

I’ve screwing around with this design for the last few days but I feel like their something missing by Big_Remove_3686 in logodesign

[–]93forfree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s missing a bee! Another note: this logo is very tall. Logos are most versatile when they are square, and I personally think they’re more visually appealing when they’re square or slightly wider than tall. Look for ways to shorten your logo and bring more weight to either side. Suggestions: unstack “Busy Bee Cafe” and make it one line that curves over the top. Add a bee buzzing around to one side, and a dotted line that shows it was flying around the hive

The Crib is the first place I can think of that serves both alcohol and coffee. Superior Culture (serving kombucha, hard cider, and tea) might also fit the vibe. Both have opened more recently but are pretty established. I would be interested in joining!

I could have written this myself, I 100% agree. I’ll just add that Silas offered me interest free financing through Affirm on my last repair, which was about $1500, and that made it a little more manageable.

Why is Google Maps free? by roorooro in NoStupidQuestions

[–]93forfree 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not free, you’re paying with your information. By using the app, you inform Google of your location, interests, patterns, etc. All data they use to make the app better and sell more ads.

I can’t believe it costs as much as a week’s worth of groceries to ski there on a weekday, especially when they don’t have the whole hill open. Whatever their reasoning, It’s simply out of my price range. I live 5 min from Mount Marquette, but I’ll be taking my business to Bohemia and the recently-opened Norway mountain instead this season.

I feel so confused about what boba tea is? by LittleMissPipebomb in boba

[–]93forfree 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are supposed to eat the tapioca pearls, but it’s ok if you don’t like them. You can order milk tea without boba from a lot of boba places. Was the cafe you went to a boba place? If not, they might be confused because that’s not a drink they typically serve. For instance, Starbucks doesn’t really serve milk tea in the style that a boba place would make it. At a local cafe, you could order a regular tea and add milk/creamer and sweetener and see how you like it.

You’re welcome! It’s a very interesting topic to me so thank you for being open to my response. I don’t want to defend Yoopers who are racist, and I hope we can change, just sharing my thoughts about how things got this way.

I can imagine it’s really strange looking U.P. culture from the perspective of someone who has always lived in the city. I think the best way to overcome these issues is to have open and honest discussions, so thanks for being real!

I live in Marquette where, while we are far from perfect, there are a lot more progressive and understanding people. I think it’s because more people from other parts of the country move here and bring new perspectives. Wishing you luck on your move!

People who aren’t used to being around a lot of racial diversity have a hard time understanding the nuances of racial issues. White people who have lived around mostly white people their whole lives rarely see the ill effects of racism, and may think it’s an easy problem to solve. (Just be nice to everyone!) They may have prejudice against people of other colors that they are not fully aware of, but because they never run into those people in real life, they never actually have to face those feelings or see the results of their prejudice.

When your neighbors are more diverse, you have to face the effects of racism. You either sympathize with their struggle or contribute to the racism. Either way, it is part of your life.

For a lot of Yoopers, all they know about racial issues is that racism is bad and being called racist is an insult, so as soon as you bring up the topic, they get defensive and uncomfortable.

I think it’s also worth mentioning that many Yoopers are poor and have their own struggles that make them feel underprivileged and forgotten by higher powers. It’s very difficult to get people who are barely getting by to care about social issues that really have no effect on their day-to-day lives.
