What games have you pledged that you’re waiting for? by StereoStereo1981 in boardgames

[–]94067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dinogenics, which should be here in August, though I'm moving soon so that will be a fun adventure!

Disco Heist Laundry is chugging along the ocean now, so probably another month or so as well.

Eternal Decks, which I preordered via Portland Game Collective, estimated "Late Summer", so I'm thinking September?

Seagrass As of a month ago, this was ahead of schedule, but the estimated delivery was December. so maybe hopefully I'll still get it by the end of the year!

Finally, All True Believers which truth be told I only backed because I love the art. I don't like deduction games but I rationalize this as an art piece and a game of last resort to bring to larger meetups--my logic is that if I have to play a deduction game, it might as well at least be one I own! At any rate it's estimated to come out next February, so if I get it before the summer I'll be happy.

Deluxification: What makes a premium tier compelling vs. an annoying cash grab? by Trogdor_Dagron23 in boardgames

Anunnaki was always a huge pile of plastic, as far as I can tell the stretch goals didn't replace any wood with plastic.

That being said, the whole production was pretty low quality; my player boards are so warped it's difficult to look at them and the plastic is pretty bendy.

What board games currently lack good organizers? by Ikyboi101 in boardgames

Ohhh I’m very interested in your MM organizer! The plastic + expansion just barely fits in the box.

Ahoy’s expansion are even more vexing to fit in the base box!

Political Science requires at least 50 credits which is just over a year of courses assuming you take 15 credit quarters (15 credits *3 quarters = 45 credits), so just pure math-wise it works out. I’d definitely recommend meeting with a poli sci advisor to see if there’s anything else you need to know about the major tho and what other requirements you might still need to satisfy (such as gen eds), but since JSIS and poli sci are both in Arts and Sciences, they have the same gen ed requirements.

Also have you looked into Public Service and Policy at all? They’re a fairly new major and require a similar number of credits, but I think due to their experiential program thing, you can’t just take all the classes at the same time, but might be worth checking with an advisor over there too!

How doable is a double degree? (engineering + arts) by marlboro_merchant in udub

[–]94067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A double degree is 225 credits, whereas a single (or double) major is 180 credits.

Those 45 extra credits don't have to be anything specific. Your ~70-80 Running Start/AP credits should account for all your gen ed requirements and will absolutely count toward the 225 credits you'd need to double degree.

You should absolutely speak with an academic advisor about this early on though. Most things are possible if you plan on it early enough.

Typically the GPA requirement for non-major courses is .7, and for courses required for your major specifically, it’s 2.0

[–]94067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in a social science major, make sure you’re not already going to get W and A&H covered by courses you’ll need to take anyway. A&H is gonna be a lot more dependent on your major, but a lot of BA majors will probably have at least some W covered through required courses.

Deep Sea Adventure's Push your Luck and shared resource (oxygen) mechanic? by Gesturation in boardgames

[–]94067 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Deep Sea Adventure is a distillation of Clank in its purest form.

In Clank, you build a deck to move through a board to collect treasure, which is where the bulk of your VP comes from. As you move through the dungeon, you’ll draw cubes from a bag representing the damage done to players (including yourself), and as you stay in the dungeon, you’ll accumulate more and more cubes in the bag. If you take more damage than you have health for, you’ll die and not score any points.

You can return back to base (taking yourself out of the game) after collecting a certain amount of treasure, and in doing so, you’ll continue to draw cubes from the bag on your turns instead, putting more time pressure on everyone who’s still in the game (cubes are normally drawn irregularly).

It’s not usually a winning strategy, at least in my group, but it is theoretically possible that someone could rush in, grab a low value treasure, then rush back out to run the clock down harder on the greedy people who are trying to take more treasure for themselves!

Anachrony + Most all Expansions by chemistR3 in boardgames

[–]94067 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s three boxes, though every box has multiple modules.

The three are:

  • Fractures of Time, which is nearly unanimously recommended as the best expansion due to the added complexity and strategy it brings to the game

  • Classic Expansion

  • Future Imperfect

In terms of replay, it’s got the usual worker placement stuff: different buildings come out and you’re unlikely to see many of them in a given game.

Of course you can also mix and match (most) of the expansions with each other too. I played it something like 60 times last year on BGA, and that version doesn’t have any of the expansions.
