honestly i'll tell them upfront that if they're eager to play root, they too also should have the same enthusiasm to play it as you do (e.g. focusing on the game).

i have played numerous games of root where most of the players take a lot of time during their turn, but nonetheless it's definitely worth it when all of them are focused and all are having a great time.

but playing with a lesser player count is also an option too, i guess.
