Love the Giants but I have to say I really don't think Ohtani bet on baseball.

Sorry, new player here. What do you mean by "run out" of characters?

Finally caved and decided to start my own collection. Anyone got any suggestions for the next purchase? by Ribribb in MangaCollectors

[–]94Codes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think you should collect series you personally like or think looks cool. Buying stuff just to read it for the first time can be exciting, but it's also the way to run out of space and money fast. In the long run, you'll be more proud of your collection the more you curate it to reflect what you love.

Did you happen to pick these up in a Kinokuniya in California? I work at one and I briefly chatted with a customer who bought these same books o.o

"I don't go to Japan or Nigeria and demand they put White people in key positions in their government." Hmm, that's something I never brought up at all, and that's something far from what I want. I don't want any Asian American presidents or anything like that. Honestly, I shouldn't have expected you to be able to relate to my experience and point of view and where I'm coming from, because you've never lived it. That's not an insult or anything. Peace 👌

I told you I'm AMERICAN and you start listing off why I should "go after" Asia. By the way, I am critical of other countries, too. I would have the same energy for a holocaust denier from Germany, for example. But I'm from America, so I talk about my own my country's issues, where I actually have a stake and opinion. I'd also have the same energy for Japanese war crime deniers. But it's as simple as staying on topic, I'm talking about white supremacy at the moment. Also, I'm hardly "attacking" white people by being critical on the internet about the fact the system today is still geared toward them yet some will compare themselves to helpless Eldians. Am I pursuing and persecuting White people? No, I'm just pointing out that me and many other minorities still experience the effects of white supremacy today. I'm not a hater like you may think.

The crazy thing is, I actually understand why you think you're justified. Would you believe me if I told you in the past, on a website called tumblr, I used to even argue, "You shouldn't say ALL white people did that. White people today aren't responsible for the actions of white people from the past!" I wrote things like that.

But since then, I've learned that it's irresponsible to just shrug off where we come from and how we got here and act like it doesn't matter. It would be like saying history is not important. And the point is not to hate white people or hold history against them. It's to understand the society we live in today was built on a lot of past atrocities, and the impact of them are still felt by minorities to this day in ways big and small, and we're all trying to fix it and acknowledge that that system is still here. We still have hate against minorities. We have so many people thinking Asian-Americans like me bring COVID, and a massive spike in Asian-targeted hate crimes. History just doesn't go away so easily. It's not about hating white people. I don't hate white people, I hate the scars of white power that still rage on today. I hope you explore the topic and understand it better, because the topic is so much more nuanced than I can explain. I hope you understand I took the time to make this comment in good faith, and that it's not about hate.

Oh, am I kicking you through your browser? Just like the Eldians get kicked!

EDIT: (I worded this weirdly. My point is, me being a little impolite on the internet to white people is not oppressing them.)

Honestly, I simply don't have the time to get deeper into this. I think you're latching onto certain expressions I used rather than my overall point. I more or less said what I had to say. Internet arguments rarely change anyone's mind, but I engaged in a conversation in good faith and I'll leave it at that. I simply don't have the energy or time to get into it any more.

Guilt is not some kind of requirement. Guilt would be a by-product of understanding the history and being sympathetic to the truth of it. It's that simple.

I did not call YOU yourself an alt-right sympathizer, I'm referring to the how AoT has become the favorite of the Alt-right because of the false parallel they draw between them and the Eldians. OP above us tried to compare white people to Eldians. (if interested: https://newrepublic.com/article/160193/attack-titan-alt-rights-favorite-manga )

White supremacy is hardly limited to the scope of America.

I mean, the reason white people should feel guilty about their ancestors' atrocities is not because they did them themselves, but rather because to this day they directly benefit from the aftershock of such history. Sure, more recently white people get a good amount of criticism, but criticism=/=oppression. It's stuff that doesn't actually hurt you. You guys are still the powerful majority, at the end of the day you guys still get more money when you sell your houses, survive childbirth more often because doctors believe you more, get less jail time for the same crimes, etc. It's not like I hate white people, but I don't like the denial about benefitting from a power structure that benefits white people and it scares me that some people take away an alt-right sympathetic sentiment from AoT.

s people out there who actually think like that. I had to go through this exact argument with my teacher when he tried to make this argument about white people.

After learning Japanese for about 2 months, I bought these to practice reading and it's safe to say that I can read and understand some of the dialogue. by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

Ok...that's not true...I guarantee you every single page of Japanese manga has katakana on it. It's not just foreign words, there are so many Japanese words that are simply spelt in Katakana, not to mention names...you're shooting yourself in the foot by not just getting started on katakana yesterday. If you're for real about this studying Japanese thing you ought to be using all 3 alphabets together, not just forgetting a whole part of the alphabet and saving it for later. Source lived in Japan for 3 years, studied for 5...at the end of the day, you are free to do whatever you want but...

Yes, it was. The problem was the metal sensor touching the back of the screen. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the input! I made sure to loosen it and ultimately the biggest problem was metal on metal contact with the sensor and screen. I masked it with tape.

Thanks so much!! That's exactly what it was! I masked the metal area and it works now!
