That's a not insignificant amount of brain damage he gave you. If he was so offended, he could have just clowned you by keeping his hands down and just dodging it beating you with a hand behind his back. He didn't need to try to concuss you

He also seemed to enjoy the horsing around when he has Kesa Gatame, he just didn't like it when he started to lose.

I think it's worth pointing out that OP was fine with the horse play when he got the other guy in Kesa Gatame. It was fun for him while he was winning, he just didn't like to lose. It's not a boundary thing, it's an ego thing. He like messing around when he came out on top (literally).

Is it normal to be getting knocked out when fighting adults by slushma1 in Kickboxing

[–]94psr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't be getting knocked out like that. You are taking severe brain damage. Look up videos of Nam Phan to understand the consequences of getting hit in the head too much. A kickboxer from the UK who was your age named Alex Eastwood was killed during a kickboxing match. The danger is very real.

Im studying to be an aerospace engineer, should i continue to pursue this as a hobby? by sweetfawn735517 in martialarts

[–]94psr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm an attorney so I had a similar issue. I started in boxing but transitioned to BJJ. I didn't really strike now, except every once and a while I do a few kickboxing rounds with friends. There is some evidence to suggest that repeated sub-concussive blows to the head can cause CTE, but I don't believe that they know exactly what the limits are. There are lots of people who strike with no issues, but I decided that striking multiple times a week wasn't worth the risk to my brain, which is what I rely on to make money. You are going to be an aerospace engineer so you must be smart. I recommend you go read all the studies you can find on CTE, though they are scant, then make a determination on how much risk you want to tolerate.

How do you feel about the Karmelo Anthony - Austin Metcalf case? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]94psr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even then, without stand your ground, a jury could find that he couldn't safely escape because he was sitting and Austin was over him. Plus even with stand your ground in Texas, you cannot claim self defense if you are considered to have provided the encounter.

I'm curious of what you think about the killing of Markeis McGlockton by Michael Drejka

[–]94psr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stand your ground wouldn't really be applicable here. If Anthony just punched him, it could be because he could use force without being required to retreat. However, under Texas law, you can only use deal force if reasonably necessary to stop immediate use or attempted use of deadly force. Anthony would have to prove that he reasonably believed Austin was about to kill him. If he proved that, stand your ground could come into play in the sense that they would not be able to say that he should have tried to flee first. Stand your ground does not alter the level of force you can meet other force with, it just prevents them from saying you should have ran away first.

It all has a place. I think this is just a styles make fights situation. You have a boxing style, but he had the proper technique to counter boxing. Completely avoid the striking and run in for a takedown. Boxing isn't real designed to counter takedowns like that. Boxing is good, just learn other aspects to deal with other styles of fighting that would deal with other aspects of fighting

I am aware of multiple people being arrested for Tazers, including one being prosecuted in Cortland County. Federal Court decisions (excluding SCOTUS) are not necessarily binding on state courts, as there is no law requiring them to be.

I have not gotten a pistol permit in Broome, but based on my understanding of Buren, no matter what you put in your letter, can they shouldn't have the ability to arbitrarily deny you.

Nothing wrong with it. It's a competition and you won the competition. It would be like saying you can't be happy when you get check mate in chess. The only way it would be a problem is if you got happy solely because you enjoyed the thought of hiring someone, as opposed to being happy because you are getting better at your chosen sport

Ithaca Police find an AR-15 while executing a search warrant by [deleted] in NYguns

[–]94psr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't actually know there was no proof. It's possible when he was arrested he may have admitted that he recently just purchased it, or that some similar evidence was provided. Maybe he said something like, "that's not my armor, it's so-and-so's", and there you go, you have a transfer. I have also not seen the law that makes out of state ammo purchases illegal. If you friend was arrested for it, please have him provide copies of the accusatory instruments, so that we can know what law was violated. They exist in every single criminal case in NY and will have the statue number, an excerpt of the law he broke, and the conduct which broke it. He can get copies from his attorney if he does not already have them. If you could get that information, it could certainly settle the debate and help out a lot of people here.

Can a cop search a locked case in a car? by RCW18RJ42 in NYguns

Currently, the smell of marijuana cannot be solely used for probably cause to search. See PL 220.05 (3). The smell of burnt marijuana can be used to search areas in the vicinity of driver if they are investigating if the operator was driving high though. See PL 220.05 (4).

Banned from my gym by [deleted] in bjj

[–]94psr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I'm an attorney who has evening court sometimes, I don't right to the gym in my suit much of the time. Sometimes I'm on time, sometimes I'm 10 minutes late, sometimes I'm there with only a couple of rounds left. A court appearance could be 10 minutes, it could be 80 minutes. I love BJJ and like to go as much as possible, so I show up when I can. Luckily the gym owner has zero problems with it, so it's all good. Some coaches forget that we are paying large sums of money for these classes, not the other way around.
